Obeying the Truth

History of the Eastern Church Fathers Concluded His Excellencies Liturgical Lectures

On October 7, 2015, His Excellency, Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo, began his final lecture on the History of the Chaldean Liturgy in regards to the consciences of the priests. During the mass, every priest should be aware of exactly what he is doing consciously while being fully convinced of it without any outside pressure. His Excellency went into detail on priests choosing what is logically right through one’s conscious rather than doing something spiritually and liturgically wrong for the sake of obedience to a Bishop or Patriarch.

Elaborating further in regards to obedience, Mar Sarhad expressed deeply the importance to fully obey the truth beginning with God, His Church, and His laws. Giving an example of this, His Excellency asked if your father tells you to drive over the speed limit and break other traffic laws and while doing this you were pulled over by the police and the police officer asked you why you broke these laws, what will you say? Would you say that your father told you to and you were just being obedient?

His Excellency concluded his talk by showcasing a book titled The News of the East Patriarchs, a book on the history of the Eastern Patriarchs and explained how the first four pages went into tremendous detail on Mar Addai and Mar Mari and the necessity of having the icon of the body of Jesus Christ on the cross and its importance towards the life of the Church.  Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo also showed manuscripts that expressed in full detail that all Churches must have the icon of the body of Jesus Christ on the cross above the altar.
