Faith as a Grain of Mustard Seed

Fr. David Stephen Celebrates His First Mass

On Sunday, August 16, 2015, Fr. David Stephen celebrated his first Mass at St. Peter Cathedral. The 11:30am High Mass was filled with faithful as well as Fr. David’s many family, friends and loved ones.

“If you had faith as a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this sycamine tree, ‘Be rooted up, and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”

During his sermon, Fr. David reflected on the mustard seed and how it grows into a large tree. Any seed that is planted needs water and sunlight for it to grow into a plant. Fr. David gave the analogy that just as a seed needs water and sunlight to grow, our faith needs prayer and fasting to do the same.

Fr. David Stephen has been assigned as Parochial Vicar at St. Michael Chaldean Catholic Church for at least the next year while he continues his formation. We ask that the Lord bless his priesthood and ministry, and that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, he may grow in holiness.
