50th Anniversary of the Priestly Ordination of Bishop Sarhad Y. Jammo

The Holy Father, Pope Francis sent his congratulations on the occasion of Bishop Sarhad Yawsip Jammo’s 50th Anniversary of Priestly Ordination. The text is below, with a partial translation from the Latin by Prof. Msgr. Michael Magee.



Selected from the Text of the Holy Father:

We indeed, being moved by the highest paternal regards for you, wish for Our part on such a great occasion to express openly Our best wishes and high esteem. Nor must we fail to add to these good wishes and prayers our sincere and heartfelt congratulations. Accordingly, Venerable Brother, we most lovingly impart to you and to the whole flock whom you tend as a holy shepherd the Apostolic Blessing as a pledge of our particular love, asking at the same time of you and of them the assistance of your prayers for the exercise of Our Petrine office.

From the Vatican, this 18th day of November in the year 2014, the second of Our Pontificate.




bpsarhad2The Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, also wrote to congratulate Bishop Sarhad.

Mar Sarhad was ordained a priest on December 19, 1964 at Urbaniana College in Rome by Cardinal Grégoire-Pierre Agagianian. He celebrated his first Holy Mass on the Tomb of St. Peter, and the Mass was served by his father, Shamasha Yawsip Jammo.

Joining the Holy Father, as well as the Apostolic Nuncio, the whole Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle congratulates and prays for her beloved shepherd.


The year 2014 marks the Jubilees of many of the clergy of St. Peter Diocese:

– 30th Anniversary of Episcopacy of Bishop Bawai Soro

– 25th Anniversary of Priesthood of Father Noel Gorgis

– 15th Anniversary of Priesthood of Father Peter Lawrence

– 10th Anniversary of Priesthood of Father Andrew Younan


Celebrations for all of these Jubilees will collectively be held on the occasion of the upcoming priestly ordinations scheduled for April 10, 2015.
