Keeping Our Promises

Meditating on the life and example of Saint Luke

On the last Thursday of every month, the Mary Queen of Saints prayer group gathers at St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Cathedral for a public Holy Hour. The service begins at 7pm with Ramsha (Evening Prayer), followed by a reflection on a chosen Saint. This month, the Saint focused on was Saint Luke.

During his reflection, Andrew Hermiz pointed out how much attention Saint Luke pays to promises by comparing Zachariah and his unwillingness to believe the angel to Our Lady and her openess to God’s will. Andrew emphasized the importance of keeping our promises to God, especially since he is a God who always keeps his promises.

With the holidays coming up, the prayer group is taking a break from the monthly Holy Hours until January. In the mean time, the Seminary of Mar Abba the Great has a weekly Holy Hour at the Seminary from 7-8pm every Thursday. The Workers of the Vineyard sisters also do Holy Hours at the convent every Thursday at the same time. The Holy Hours at the Seminary are for men only. Likewise, those at the convent are exclusively for women.

Prayer to  St. Luke

Almighty God, who inspired your servant Luke the physician to set forth in the Gospel the love and healing power of your Son, Jesus Christ: Graciously continue in your Church the love and power to heal, to the praise and glory of your Name; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
