Youth Congratulate Mar Bawai Soro

Statement of Congratulations from Youth Ministry, SMYLE, of St. Matthew Catholic Church

In our tribute to H.E. Bishop Mar Bawai Soro, for receiving the titular see of Foraziana on January 11, 2014, from our beloved Holy Father Pope Francis, in pastoral service in the Chaldean Eparchy of Saint Peter the Apostle of San Diego, CA. We are drawn to a state of contemplation, and reflecting on the significance of this historical achievement, we found ourselves conscious of the fact that we have crossed the threshold of a new dawn- moving closer towards The One in Whom alone we can be united- Jesus Christ our Lord our God.

The perseverance of Bishop Bawai Soro so to achieve this authentic Unity in Christ, and in remaining submissive to The Divine Guidance of the Holy Spirit; he remained in harmony with God’s Will- to be one in Christ, to be perfect in One. He was never alone, for God’s presence in his life emanated the Light that sustained him in all his struggles, boldly facing his many adversaries and preserved him from ever growing indifference. On January 11, 2014, God revealed His wonderful work He Had accomplished in our beloved Bishop Bawai Soro and our spiritual dear father, H.E. Bishop Mar Sarhad Y. Jammo, and so was their fortitude made perfect in their fidelity to their Calling, and was declared to us and to all.

For those of us who have followed the events concerning our beloved Bishop Bawai Soro, and were inspired by his unwavering convictions facing his many opponents; receiving this great tiding made history and made us become part of it too. It is times such as these when we find ourselves so overtaken by joy and gratitude that we turn back to history and those who celebrated their epic moments, so to find some way that we may express our own gratifying thoughts with clarity. Taking from Neil Armstrong’s most famous quote “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”, following his own historical moment taking his first step off the ladder on to the Moon in 1969, spoke volumes. And today, so fittingly, that quote speaks volumes to us too, for when we consider what that first moment meant for our beloved Bishop Bawai Soro as he came to know about this amazing honor given to him, we cannot see it any other way but that it was an epic moment indeed. However, just as the achievement of Armstrong’s “one step” getting there was a result of “giant leap” in technology- decades of hard work and unimaginable dreams for man to set foot on another celestial body. So was Mar Bawai’s ardent aspiration to reach that one step towards unity for all; the result of decades-long of undertaking he boldly had to undergo, filled with Hope and driven by Love only God can give.

Your Excellency Bishop Mar Sarhad Y. Jammo and Your Excellency Bishop Mar Bawai Soro, we are so ever grateful to God our Heavenly Father, for counting us worthy of becoming the recipients of such amazing Blessing through you. Your zeal has been our inspiration, and claiming us your flock made what was once a dream, become reality. We too have taken our own one step towards Unity, and today, we stand with you, firm in our own convictions, true to our Faith, United in Christ. Indeed, it takes a giant leap of Faith to believe that we can all be United in Christ, for only when God Is in our souls, such Unity can be accomplished; you taught us that. Otherwise, any other unity is merely a fragile whisper, even more so, an intangible ambition which is plainly just that, intangible, and has no bearing in this life or the next. God Bless.
