The Emmaus Retreat – June 2013

The Diocese of St. Peter the Apostles had another spiritually fulfilling weekend during the Emmaus Retreat which took place June 20-23, 2013. This past retreat marks the 12th Emmaus Retreat to take place in San Diego. The retreat is also available in Michigan.

The weekend begins like any other retreat, a group of strangers meet in the St. Peter’s parking lot, trying desperately to cram all their luggage into the cars that will take them to St. George Monastery. What they do not realize is that they will come back a family.

“That very day two of them were going to a village named Emma’us” (Lk 24:13). For those who have attended the Emmaus Retreat, these words have a very deep meaning. During the four days of the retreat, the group of people who attend journey together. Along the way, they discover friendship with Christ in one another and through the different talks, activities and small groups.

“While they were talking and discussing together,┬áJesus himself drew near and went with them” (Lk 24:15). It is this Jesus who makes the retreat what it is and who reminds those that attend of the God who died for their sake and desires them to be members of his Heavenly family. May the graces of the Emmaus Retreat bring those who attended closer to Christ and his Church and overflow in their families and friendships.
