Saint Matthew youth learning & evangelizing Ministry, SMYLE, hosted its first event on October 28th, 2012, commemorating World Youth Day, and celebrating its confirmation, and formally announcing its initiation. The event was held in our Parish, St. Matthew Assyrian Chaldean Catholic Church in Ceres, CA.
The event was administered and sponsored by the Youth and Parish volunteers, the evening began with welcoming speeches in both Assyrian and English. The Ministry members collectively participated in putting together a clear and informative program, which included the announcement of our Ministry’s Mission Statement, the administrative structure and core members, and its imminent contribution in the upsurge of Catholic Youth work we see throughout the world. The evening reflected the momentum that has been building up in our Youth over the years. The collective effort in bringing this evening about, paved the first step of many more to come; preparing us for bigger and broader outreach activities.
Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI declared this the year of Faith; a summon for all of us to reinvest ourselves in Faith. By Grace, we have become conscious of this supreme call, and mindful of the Divine Gifts God bestowed upon us. In our commemoration of World Youth Day, we reaffirmed our commitment to an authentic revival- reaffirmed our commitment to worship and serve God our Heavenly Father.
We extend our most sincere gratitude for the blessings and the support of St. Thomas Assyrian Chaldean Catholic Church in Turlock, CA, and St. Mary Assyrian Chaldean Catholic Church in Campbell, CA, for our Assistant Pastor Fr. Potrus Sulaqa who blessed the Ministry. St. Mary’s Fr. Michael Barota and his family, and Father Dimitri Grekoff from Fair Oaks, CA. But even more so, we thank our families and friends whose prayers and support inspired us to develop the core principles of our Ministry and its administrative guidelines.
We have much work ahead of us for we have been summoned indeed; by God’s Grace we have come together and reaffirmed our commitment to His Will- to reject all that is contrary to His WORD, and strive to all that does Him honor.
