The Men’s Retreat took place the weekend of April 13-15, 2012. In the Chaldean Liturgy, it is the weekend of New Sunday. A group of 28 men came together on Friday evening and spent the weekend at St. George Monastery. The retreat was lead by Fr. Andrew Younan who also had the seminarians of the Seminary of Mar Abba the Great to assist him throughout the weekend.
The retreat is based on Matthew 11 and focuses on John the Baptist. The men returned on Sunday for 4:30 Mass at the Cathedral refreshed and ready to return to their families and work. May God continue to guide them closer to himself, especially through the intercession of St. John the Baptist.
“What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind? Why then did you go out? To see a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those who wear soft raiment are in kings’ houses. Why then did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is he of whom it is written, `Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.’ Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. – Matthew 11:7-11
