Theme: “I Will Pour Out My Spirit On All Flesh” (Acts 2:17)
What a beautiful retreat it was with the St. Peter’s Chaldean Choir at St. George Chaldean Monastery in Riverside, CA, on May 11-12, 2012. Father Noel Gorgis led the retreat with great humility and clarity, his first talk was titled “How can we live our lives among the community”. This talk made us gather and share reflections to become closer and stronger in the presence of God.
Through this retreat we build strength within ourselves for each other. Through our Catholic faith we connect in many ways, we all have a special gift and must know how to share it, we also have special talents that become fruitful when we share them together as a community. Through communication, we learn and teach each other. The most important thing is that we must accept others the way they are; understanding one’s strength and weakness is what builds a human soul to live in harmony with others among the community.
The retreat was full with many activities such as prayers, meditation, sharing reflections, hiking through mountains, confessions, and attending Mass. The final part of the retreat was an activity that the whole group worked together to accomplish. The theme of the activity was “I am the way, the truth, and life”. Everyone shared ideas and participated with his/her own piece combining their work together in one big poster as the tower of Babylon, but this time, the tower is built in our hearts, leading us to Jesus Christ in heaven with the help of the Holy Spirit who is with us since the day He descended on the apostles after the Resurrection of our Lord.
Everyone had a wonderful time during this amazing retreat, we prayed for God to protect our choir group, our families, our church and its leaders. We also prayed for those choir members who were not able to attend the retreat. Special thanks to Fr. Noel, and to the organizing committee.
