A Call to Chaldean Contemporary Renaissance
Lecture by Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo
After giving an encouraging lecture at St. John's Parish, His Excellency, Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo went to the Babylon Chaldean Civic Club to give another lecture titled, “A Call to Chaldean Contemporary Renaissance.”He began by asking a question, "Who are we?" The remainder of his lecture was spent answering this question. He began his answer by saying that the Chaldean Church around the world is suffering. It is a dark time in our history, especially when there are now fewer Chaldeans in their home country than around the world. We have been forced away from our land and have been scattered throughout the world. This is a tragic reality we are forced to live with, but it does not mean we lose who we are. This is the most crucial time for us not to forget who we are and where we came from; the land between the rivers. This is our culture, our heritage and it is one to be proud of.
Our most precious treasure is our Chaldean language. It was the language of Babylon, of our culture. The preservation of our Chaldean language is the preservation of our culture. It is wrong for Chaldeans not to know their language. It is what continues to keep Chaldeans around the world connected to one another. Regardless of whether they are in Sweden, America, Australia or Europe, all Chaldeans around the world have their language in common. It is the rope that ties us all together.
