Study Questions

Note: There will be two questions for each subject selected from the following:

A. Liturgy - Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo

1. Describe the general and basic outline of the Eucharistic celebration, including the festive and ferial design.
2. What is the liturgical relevance of the Bema and of the Veil in the Chaldean rite?
3. How do you assess the prayer of the celebrant with the back to the Cross, during the Presentation of the Gifts and their Offering to the Father?
4. Explain how the Presentation (Jesus took bread and the chalice) is performed in the Chaldean liturgy and its meaning, including the requirements for the offering.
5. Explain the Quddasha section of the liturgy (Jesus blessed). (pp. 7-8 of handout).
6. Describe and explain the Breaking and Signing rite.
7. Present the general outline of the Communion section with its prepatory and its following segments.

 

B. Biblical Christology - Fr. Michael Bazzi

1. The Messiah in the Old Testament.
2. Titles of Jesus in the New Testament.
3. Jesus the Messiah according to Matthew, Mark and Luke.
4. Jesus the Messiah according to John.
5. Jesus the Messiah according to Paul.
6. The Blessed Trinity.
7. Jesus God and Man.

 

C. Church History - Fr. Felix Shabi

1. Who where the four Apostles who spread Christianity in our land?
Answer: Thomas, Addai, Aggai, & Mari + little description about each one of them. (1st lesson : page 2)
2. Who were the two Christian groups in Mesopotamia who lived along with the Church of Babylon?
Answer: 1- The Christians of Arbela, 2) The western Christians from the exile, with little distinction (page 1& 2 in the second lesson)
3. Discuss the great persecution
Answer: (1st page of the third lesson)
4. Discuss Tatian and his book “Diateseron”
Answer: (2nd page of third class)

 

D. Patristic Christology - Fr. Andrew Younan

1. Be ready to discuss the following heresies and Church Fathers: Docetism, Arianism, Apollinarianism, Athanasius, the Cappadocian Fathers, Theodore of Mopsuestia, Nestorious, Cyril of Alexandria.
2. How would you characterize and distinguish the “School of Alexandria” and the “School of Mesopotamia?”
3. What were the conclusions of the Councils of: Nicea (325), Ephesus (431), Chalcedon (451) and II Constantinople (553)?
4. Is Christ one or two? How?
5. How would you define the word qnoma? What does it contribute to Christology?
