First Reading: Deuteronomy
10:12-end
Moses said to the people: "And now, Israel, what does the
Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to
walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the
commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I command you this
day for your good? Behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven
and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it; yet
the Lord set his heart in love upon your fathers and chose their
descendants after them, you above all peoples, as at this day.”

Second Reading:
Isaiah 28:23-29:12
In an instant, suddenly, you will be visited by the Lord of
hosts with thunder and with earthquake and great noise, with
whirlwind and tempest, and the flame of a devouring fire. As
when a hungry man dreams he is eating and awakes with his hunger
not satisfied, or as when a thirsty man dreams he is drinking
and awakes faint, with his thirst not quenched, so shall the
multitude of all the nations be that fight against Mount Zion.
Stupefy yourselves and be in a stupor, blind yourselves and be
blind! Be drunk, but not with wine; stagger, but not with strong
drink! For the Lord has poured out upon you a spirit of deep
sleep, and has closed your eyes, the prophets, and covered your
heads, the seers. And the vision of all this has become to you
like the words of a book that is sealed.

The Epistle: 1
Corinthians 14:26-end
What then, brethren? When you come
together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue,
or an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. If
any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three,
and each in turn; and let one interpret. But if there is no one
to interpret, let each of them keep silence in church and speak
to himself and to God. Let two or three prophets speak, and let
the others weigh what is said. If a revelation is made to
another sitting by, let the first be silent. For you can all
prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be
encouraged; and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.
For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.

Gospel: Matthew
18:1-18
At that time
the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the
kingdom of heaven?" And calling to him a child, he put him in
the midst of them, and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you
turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom
of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the
greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
"Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; but
whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to
sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone
fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the
sea.
"Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary
that temptations come, but woe to the man by whom the temptation
comes! And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it
off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed
or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the
eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out
and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one
eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.
"See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I
tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of
my Father who is in heaven. What do you think? If a man has a
hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not
leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the
one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you,
he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never
went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven
that one of these little ones should perish.
"If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault,
between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained
your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others
along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence
of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell
it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the
church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound
in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in
heaven.
