The Patriarch visits Shaqlawa

On Monday, May 2nd 2006, His Beatitude Mar Emmanuel III Delley, Patriarch of Babylon for Chaldeans, visited the city of Shaqlawa in northern Iraq (Kurdistan). He was received with great joy by the Chaldean community there. His beatitude entered St. Mary’s Church and addressed a speech to thank the people of Shaqlawa for their beautiful reception.  He also thanked the mayor of the city who came to his reception from the city entrance.

At the evening of the same day, His Beatitude attended the Chaldean Holy Liturgy celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Shlemom Warduni along with the rest of the members of the Patriarchal Synod as well as the representative of the Apostolic Nuncio in Iraq, Msgr. Tomas.

After the Holy Liturgy, the patriarch headed to the shrine of Monk Booya and then to a second shrine of St. John where he presided over the evening liturgical prayer.  After the long day program, he went back to his residence in Shaqlawa where the synod is gathering for the next 7 days.
