Holy Thursday
Every year, the story
of the Last Supper is commemorated by millions, as they remember the
story of Christ and the origination of the Holy Eucharist. Last
Thursday April 13th, 2006, his beloved Mar Sarhad Jammo
led a mass full of enthusiasm to spread the joy of Christ and retell
the story of the Last Supper. He began by washing the feet of twelve
young boys, chosen to be apprentices who would represent the twelve
Apostles of Christ. The Bishop exclaimed how honored he was to
symbolize the figure of our Lord, Jesus Christ. He shared that no
amount of money or material goods can ever replace the feeling of
being able to portray the image of Christ. He also explained to the
kids how important the role they were portraying was, and how they
should follow in the figures of the Apostles and always follow the
way of the Lord.
The Bishop then
proceeded to share with all how the mass we all celebrate today
originated from the washing of the feet, breaking of the bread, and
drinking of the wine. The Apostles took a part in the first mass
where Christ gave himself to us all. He broke the bread and passed
around the wine for all to consume and have Christ in their bodies.
This tradition has been passed down and is now the mass we rejoice
in taking part in weekly. The Last Supper began a tradition so
incredible; millions follow and live by the way of Christ today.
Jesus conveyed his love and devotion to us greatly. Though it was
His last supper because he was betrayed by Judas, it was the
beginning of a new life for all His people.
