Qualifications required for candidates to the Order of Lectors,
Sub-deacons, and Deacons

The qualifications for the order of
Lector:
-
Approval of the pastor.
-
Minimum age 16 years old.
-
Candidate, male or female must
be actually performing an active role of Lector during
liturgical or devotional ceremonies at our parishes.
Or, he/she must be a
member of the Chaldean or English Choir.

The qualifications for the order of
Sub-deacon:
-
Approval of the pastor.
-
Minimum age 18 years old.
-
The candidate must have a good
reputation and act and live according to the ethics of
Christian social standards.

The candidate must be active
participant in the liturgical services.

The qualifications for the order
of Deacon:
-
Approval by the pastor.

Minimum age 24 year old.
3. Must complete the theological and liturgical studies
concerning the Diaconate degree as regulated by the Diocese.
4. Must collaborate with the pastor in parish duties. For
example: parochial catechism, assisting in liturgical services
and other functions.
5. Must be able to give preparatory lessons to catechism
teachers.
6. Ready to participate in the liturgical services whenever
needed in accordance with the pastor. For example: arranging the
ceremonial of the liturgical services, preparing the engaged
couples for marriage, visiting prisoners and detainees,
conducting funeral service at the cemetery, visiting the sick in
the hospital, etc).
Lectors, Sub-deacons, & Deacons
Workshop
St. Peter
Cathedral is offering a comprehensive course to those who desire
to serve in the church as a Lector, Sub-deacon or Deacon. The
course will consist of biblical, theological and liturgical
studies of the sacraments, especially the sacraments of Order
(priesthood) and of Eucharist. Students will attend the course
once a week, every Wednesday from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm, from the
beginning of September through the end of November at St.
Peter’s Hall. Candidates for ordination must pass an exam at
the end of the course.
