9-11 Victims Remembered at Papal Mass

ALTOETTING, Germany, SEPT. 11, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI prayed with 60,000 pilgrims for the victims of Sept. 11, on the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States.

During the Mass, over which the Pope presided in the Marian shrine of Altoetting, in his native Bavaria, the faithful implored for peace in the world.

One of the prayers read during the Mass, celebrated in the square of this town of 12,000 inhabitants, said: "Five years after the terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center in New York, we pray for peace in the world."
