Sermon by
Fr.
Andrew Younan
And at the end of
eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the
name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. And
when the time came for their purification according to the law
of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the
Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that
opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord") and to offer a
sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "a
pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons."

Basilica Hymn
Like the staff of Aaron which blossomed, so is the
Virgin who conceived, O unbelieving Jew! That which
was neither planted nor watered, sprouted; the
Virgin, then, without husband and seed conceived by
the command of God. The staff showed a wonderful
fruit; and the power of the Most High came and
rested upon her who is full of grace, and promised
that she would give birth to Jesus Christ, the
Savior of the world, whom we adore and to whom we
say: Great, O Lord, is the mystery of your gracious
providence; glory to you!
