And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord") and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons." ... |

Basilica Hymn
O Lord of all, while you are in the likeness of God, you assumed the likeness of a servant in your love, and you neither robbed your Divinity nor defrauded your humanity. Rather, in both natures you are truly one Son, undivided. Indeed, above you exist without a mother, from the Father; and below, without a father, from a mother. Thus have the prophets anticipated and predicted; thus also have the apostles preached; and thus have the Fathers taught in the Church: so that, by their pleading and in their faith, you may protect us, O God, and have mercy on us.
Translations and commentaries by Fr. Andrew Younan.

Feast of Our Lady
The daughter of man became the Tree of Life for the whole mortal race, for the Glorious Fruit which dawned from her pours forth and grants all benefits. Come, O mortals, let us be brought near to the sweetness of his words, and sing praise to him!

Memorial of the Infants
“Rachel weeps for her children, and does not want to be comforted,” the glorious prophet, son of Helaqya, anticipated and declared, inspired by the Spirit, for he saw the infants and the children who were sacrificed and killed by the impure Herod, the one filled with evil, who desired to destroy the Only Begotten Son of Existence. Glory to him who became small while nothing was impossible for him, and who moved to Egypt, not for fear of the savage one, but for the fulfillment of prophecy. |
