We  Need  Each  Other

Our time is a time of drastic developments on so many fields: ecclesial, social, cultural and otherwise. We might perish or suffer heavy loss, or we might somehow survive and overcome the challenges of our time. Much of it depends on factors that are beyond our control; what depends on us regards most of all the One whom we trust and the One who is our Light, but also if we face our destiny together as a united community.

In the Ecclesial Realm: Under heavy and protracted local persecution and uncontrollable international factors, our Church and community, together with the rest of Iraqi Christians, has suffered enormously in its cohesiveness. As did most of the Assyrians in past decades, lately, half of the Iraqi Chaldeans fled their ancestral land, due to the brutality of Islamic fundamentalism and the incapacity, or unwillingness, of the Iraqi government to protect them. The diocese of Basra is decimated, Mosul is half empty of its Christian inhabitants, most of the churches and Christian religious institutions in Baghdad are closed, and their communities scattered in the neighboring countries looking for a new home.

 In the Social Realm:  The whole social fabric of the Christian communities of Iraq has been cut into many pieces. Family members, close friends and dear neighbors, houses and properties, businesses and ways of life, all have been left behind forcefully. For many, it is impossible to retrieve an ordinary social life, and it is so hard to weave a new one.

In the Cultural Realm:  The dislocation of hundreds of thousands from their land implies as well the adoption of new languages, customs and cultures, so distant and different from their own. At the present time, most European countries have Chaldean parishes and communities that are struggling to cope with their new ambiance.

We Must Establish Bridges:  Unless we muster our courage and strength, and promptly establish connections and contacts with the dispersed communities, we will end very shortly with a Church and a community that is so fragmented and disconnected that it could hardly sustain its collective existence. The most efficient way to do this is to maintain and vitalize our Aramaic language and our gorgeous eastern liturgy, as well as to establish civil and ecclesial organizational structures that bind us together.

We Need Each Other: It is our call to all Chaldeans and Assyrians, especially those yearning for unity, common cause, and shared destiny, not to lose time but to come urgently together to reject and challenge the prophets of doom, as did our forefathers the Ninevites, and build with the blessings of heaven a spiritual tower wherever we reside, inside our ancestral land or in the vast lands of the Lord.

The Seminary of Mar Abba the Great

of St. Peter Diocese

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

            In his letter to the Romans, St. Paul asks the faithful, “how can [people] call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent?” (Romans 10:14-15).

            The Lord Jesus Christ does not neglect his Church – from the very beginning, he has provided for her by calling men to share in his holy priesthood, so that his Church may always be provided with his Gospel and his Sacraments.

            In our own Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle, we have been blessed to have five young men present themselves for priestly discernment and studies. If it is their calling, these men will be future priests of our Diocese. It is they who will preach the Good News to those of the next generation, baptize them, forgive their sins, bless their marriages, pray for them at the altar of God, and nourish them with the Body and Blood of our Lord.

            Bishop Sarhad Yawsip Jammo, in response to the grace of the Lord which called these men to this first step of discernment, has realized the need to open a seminary within the Diocese in which to train them in preparation for the priesthood and aid them in their discernment of so noble a call. The house will be named the “Seminary of Mar Abba the Great,” after one of our greatest Patriarchs, who was Patriarch from 540-552 AD.  

            The reason I am writing to all of you is to ask you for three things.

            First, I ask for your heartfelt prayers for these young men and for this seminary. Without the grace of God, we can do nothing, and so we need, first and foremost, your prayers for his grace to pour out upon us.

            Second, I ask you to encourage other young men who may have a calling to the priesthood. The five men I mentioned above are only the beginning – the calling of the Lord is at work in many hearts in our Diocese, and some may need encouragement to follow it.

            Third, I ask for your financial support. Though a very kind and faithful benefactor has allowed us the use of a house temporarily, a permanent, nearby and larger location is needed for the eventual future of this Seminary, and so we are seeking to raise funds for a down payment for a house. We also are seeking benefactors to make donations of any kind – large or small – to help with the other expenses needed for living and study.

أقامت أبرشية مار بطرس للكلدان والآثوريين في غرب أميركا، اسقفاً، وكهنة، وشمامسة، مع شعب المؤمنين صغاراً وكباراً في كاتدرائية مار بطرس في سان دييگو، مساء الأربعاء 5 آذار 2008، صلاة الوردية المقدسة من أجل اطلاق سراح مطران الموصل المختطف مار بولس فرج رحو.
 

         وبعد الصلاة ألقى راعي الأبرشية سيادة المطران مار سرهد يوسپ جمو كلمة عبّر فيها عن حزنه وألمه لهذا الحدث الأجرامي المؤلم الذي أصاب الكنيسة الكلدانية جمعاء، وشارك أبناء الرعية رافعين صلواتهم الى الرب وبشفاعة امنا العذراء وجميع القديسين، من اجل إخلاء سبيل أخيه المطران بولس فرج رحو الذي لا زال مصيره مجهولاً، ليعود الى رعيته وكنيسته ومدينته بسلامة وأمان..  كما ورفعت صلاة الرحمة عن ارواح الاخوة الشهداء الثلاثة الذين سفكت دماؤهم ظلماً، طالبين من الرب ان يمنح الصبر والسلوان لعوائلهم المنكوبة.
 

        تلى الخطاب مسيرة جماعية بالشموع اكليروسا ومؤمنين باتجاه تمثال العذراء مريم مرددين صلوات الشهداء عونياثا دسهذي، من اجل راحة انفس شهدائنا الابرار، ومن اجل اطلاق سراح راعي ابرشية الموصل المختطف.

 

 

 

هو المبدأ المحرّك للحياة الروحية، ومصدر الغيرة والخدمة الرسولية في الأخوية المريمية، حيث يحث الأعضاء على الصلاة وأفعال التضحية، وأنه يسهر مع الرئيس والمسؤولين على حفظ القوانين. فهو المعلم والمشير والدليل الذي يتابع باستمرار في مراقبة الكتب وتحضير القراءات الملائمة لتكون لنا كمبادئ نسير عليها.

ولا ننسى بأنه صاحب الفضل في مرافقتنا الى الزيارات المنزلية ونشر الايمان بين العوائل الكلدانية حيث يقوم بقراءة وشرح الأنجيل بعمق، والإجابة على جميع الاسئلة التي تتعلق بهذه الزيارات، كذلك أنه يشجّع العوائل على ممارسة صلاة مسبحة الوردية المقدسة.

أننا لسعداء الحظ أن يكون لنا مرشداً روحياً أميناً كالأب بولس خمّي الذي يقوم بكل هذه المهام ... حفظه اللـه لنا أباً وكاهنا.ً

نطلب من جميع المؤمنين أن يشاركوننا في هذه الأخوية للجيش المريمي، كي تباركهم اُمنا مريم العذراء القديسة، وتقوي إيمانهم بعبادة ابنها الحبيب يسوع المسيح، ليملك على قلوبهم وعوائلهم وبيوتهم، آمين.

As part of our mission, the Ladies 0f Hope has been assisting Iraqi refugees that have been relocated to San Diego. Through generous financial and other
donations, the organization has been able to help Iraqi refugees by providing beds, linen and other household items. Additionally, as part of the Sponsor-A-Family
program in December 2007, many community members stepped forward and donated items that ensured each newly immigrated family received a gift card and dessert as part of the Christmas gift program. Many of the families were so appreciative and honored. For that, we thank all those who participated.

 

However, to help these displaced Iraqis we are asking that the community come together to provide whatever
resources they may have available. This could be in the form of job opportunities within your businesses, which could be filled by the refugees, monetary donations, or
in-kind donations in the form of beds, mattresses, linen, and household items.

في 17 شباط 2008، احتفلت ارساليتنا الكلدانية في شمال سان دييگو والتي تحمل اسم "ارسالية مار يوسف" بأول قداس لها في كنيسة مار روفائيل الامريكية وهي الكنيسة المضيفة لإرساليتنا، بعد ان افتتح سيادة ابينا المطران مار سرهد يوسپ جمو الارسالية رسمياً في 19 نوفمبر2007.

         والان وبعد مرور اكثر من 3 اشهر تمكّنا من ايجاد مكان  مؤقت يكون بمثابة مركز روحي كلداني لأبناء الارسالية في مناطق عديدة شمال سان دييگو منها: (San Marcos Escondido,  Poway Oceanside) وغيرها من المناطق التي تنتشر بها عوائلنا الكلدانية، والتي يبلغ عددها المسجل حالياً قرابة 150 عائلة، على امل ان يتم البحث وايجاد مكان ملائم خاص بابناء الارسالية بعون اللـه.

 

        سبقت القداس الالهي كلمة القاها خوري الكنيسة الاب دنيس الامريكي رحب فيها بالقادمين الجدد الى الخورنة، وعبر عن فرحه واستعداده على تقديم كل ما هو ممكن لخدمة هذه الجماعة الناشئة، وقد حضر القداس الاول زهاء 100 شخص، وان دل هذا على شيء فانما يدل على اهتمام ابنائنا وعوائلنا الكلدانية على مستقبلهم ومستقبل ابنائهم في الالتفاف حول الكنيسة امهم. كما وسمح لنا بأقامة صلوات درب الصليب وبعدها قداس في جمع الصوم.

    We thank Msgr. Dennis Mikulanis pastor of “San Rafael Parish” for allowing our Chaldean community of San Diego North County, where nearly 150 families   reside, to have their own liturgical and pastoral services.

    Msgr. Dennis allowed us to have two Masses a month on Sundays, and another two on Saturdays.

 

    On Feb 17, we celebrated our 1st Mass where Msgr. Dennis welcomed everybody. We also had celebrated the “Stations of the Cross” every Friday until the end of Lent. The future schedule will be as follows:

 

Palm Sunday, March 16^, Chaldean Mass 4:30 pm

Easter Sunday, March 23^, Chaldean Mass 1:30 pm

نشاطات  كنيسة  مار اوراها  في  اريزونا

 

المحاضرات اللاهوتية: منذ سنة بدأت كنيستنا بالمحاضرات اللاهوتية كل نهار السبت بعد القداس من قبل السيدة (بالي) الحائزة على الشهادة الجامعية في اللاهوت. يحضر هذه المحاضرة اكثر من ثلاثين شخصاً من كلا الجنسين، وقد تأخرنا في نشر هذا الخبر لحين استقرار حضور الطلاب والطالبات على هذا الموضوع.

 

 

ما ان اطل علينا الصوم المبارك حتى بدأت كنيسة مار اوراها بالتحضير لإحياء آلام المسيح في الجمعة العظيمة بقيادة الممثل الكبير السيد صفاء حمامة. يعمل الممثلون على قدم وساق لإنجاح هذا العمل حيث سيكون التمثيل حياً بما فيه الصلب. هذا ونشكر القائمين على هذا العمل والمشاركين من الممثلين الذين يهيؤون ملابس التمثيل من الخياطين، والرب يباركهم.

        كذلك اشترك المؤمنون في يوم الجمعة 15 شباط 2008، (وفي عصركل جمعة) بعد انتهاء صلاة درب الصليب والقداس، بشوي السمك (سمك مسگوف) وتناول وجبة العشاء مما يستقطب الحضور بشكل ملموس. نشكر القائمين على تحضير وتقديم هذه الوجبة بشكل شهي ولذيذ لأبناء الجالية.

يعد هذا الفريق من ابرز الفرق في  كاليفورنيا وبالتحديد في مدينة سان دييگو، ويضم مجموعة كبيرة من الشباب الكلدان وقد حصد العديد من البطولات التي شارك فيها داخل وخارج كاليفورنيا. هذا وقد اجرى مركزنا الكلداني لقاءً مع الفريق سلّط فيه الضوء على اهم  انجازاته ومشاركاته، فالتقينا بأداري الفريق الاخ ميسر توما يوسف:

سؤال: من هو الفريق الكلداني؟

جواب: يعتبر الفريق الكلداني من ابرز فرق الجالية الكلدانية في سان دييگو وتتراوح اعمار اللاعبين من 17 الى 30 سنة.

سؤال: ماهو هدف تأسيس الفريق؟

جواب: اولا:ً لرفع راية الكلدان عالياً

ثانيا: لجمع اكبر عدد من اللاعبين المتواجدين مع الفرق الامريكية والاجنبية كي يكون لنا هدف واحد مشترك ولنظهر صورة جميلة عن الرياضة العراقية وخصوصا كرة القدم.

سؤال: هل يوجد اي دعم مادي للفريق؟

جواب: بداية الفريق كانت ضعيفة ماديا فلم نتلق اي دعم مادي او معنوي وقد ادى هذا الى تحملنا اعباء مادية كثيرة، لكن هذا لم يضعفنا ابداً بل بالعكس كان دافعا معنويا ليبادر اللاعب نفسه بالتبرع والانفاق من ماله الخاص مصراً على تكملة مشواره لحصد المزيد من الانتصارات.

سؤال: من كلامك هذا يدل على ان الفريق لم يتلق اي دعم مادي؟

جواب: كما نوهت في كلامي لم يكن هناك دعم مادي او معنوي في بداية المشوار لكن تغير الحال بعد ان اصبح الفريق في مكانة ومستوى راقيين اكثر مما كان عليه، وبدأ الكثير من ابناء الجالية العراقية يتساءلون عن اخر اخباره وبعد ان وجدوه في تطور مستمر قام بعض الخيرين من ابناء الجالية  بدعم الفريق ماديا ومعنويا وفي هذه المناسبة احب ان اقدم شكري الخاص مع فائق الحب والاحترام والتقدير الى سيادة ابينا المطران سرهد يوسپ جمو  لما قدمه لنا من دعم مادي ومعنوي لا يوصف واحب ان اشكر ايضا شكرا خاصا السيد الدكتور نوري بركة المحترم لمساندته للفريق ماديا.

سؤال: ماهي انجازات الفريق؟

جواب: حصلنا على المرتبة الاولى في بطولة    (San Diego Soccer League)         

على مستوى الدرجة الاولى في سان دييگو لعام 2005- 2006  وأحرزنا في نفس العام المرتبة الثانية لبطولة الكأسSan Diego Soccer Cup) )           

وكما احرزنا على كأس Champion of Champions  لعام 2006 -2007 

وعلى بطولة اريزونا لعام 2007.

جواب: حاليا نحن مشاركون في دوري San Diego Soccer  لدرجة
