Year Anniversary of St. Peter Parish Establishment

Year Anniversary (Silver
Jubilee)
of St. Peter Church Dedication
On September 13, 2008, we will celebrate the remembrance
of the establishment of St. Peter Parish and the
dedication of St. Peter Church in San Diego, CA. There
will be a 4-month celebration starting from September 13th
through January 16, 2009. After the evening mass on
September 13th, we will have a procession at 6:00 pm
celebrating the Feast of the Cross and all parishioners
will carry banners and flags as a sign of joy to
commemorate this occasion. In January, the faithful
parishioners will be invited to celebrate together on a
trip (details will be announced later). The
celebration will be concluded on January 16th with a
community party.
35
years have passed since the establishment of St. Peter
Chaldean Catholic Parish. The Patriarch, Mar Polis II
Sheikho, officially proclaimed the establishment of St.
Peter Chaldean Catholic Parish on Saturday January 6,
1973. His Beatitude assigned the first priest to this
new parish; Fr. Peter Kattoula. He served from 1973
until his death on March 20, 1987. Fr. Michael Bazzi
was assigned Assistant Pastor on September 25, 1985.
After the death of Fr. Kattoula, Fr. Michael Bazzi was
assigned Pastor of St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Parish on
March 27, 1987 and still continues to serve as Pastor.
25
years have passed since the dedication of St. Peter
Chaldean Catholic Church. On June 29, 1979, St. Peter
Parish laid the foundation for a new church in El
Cajon. On Saturday, September 10, 1983, His Beatitude,
the Patriarch, Mar Polis II Sheikho dedicated St. Peter
Church and celebrated the first mass in the new church
on the following day, Sunday, September 11, 1983.
On May 4, 2002, the Holy Seat in Rome established a new
diocese, The Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle, in the
west region of the United States. A new Bishop was
assigned to the New Diocese, Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo. On
May 21, 2002, St. Peter Church became the seat of the
new diocese and since then it has been called St. Peter
Cathedral.

The Cross of Christ and Rebellion against the Evil One

The Old Days
It is a deep element in human nature to long
for a near-forgotten past, when “things were better.”
This is not simply the grumbling of the older generation
of today, a lament against the young who “have no
respect” and a world which is “not like it used to be.”
This is truly a desire for Eden, a wish for things to
return to that primordial past when there was neither
sin nor suffering. This is not to say that every age is
equal, or that “things” are not actually worse now than
they were a generation ago. But whether this is true or
not (and it would take a mighty intellect indeed to be
able to perceive and gauge every element of an entire
generation), the complaint would still exist. Even if
things are better now than they were before, a part of
us would still gaze at the past with wistful eyes. This
is both because, in addition to the deep and almost
subconscious awareness of the loss of Eden, for better
or for worse, the past was experienced in the freshness
of youth, and the present, for better or for worse, is
being experienced in the bitterness of old age.
This is the case of a fallen and broken
humanity. But the reality of grace dramatically changes
this, even causing a complete reversal. In the light of
the Fall, the past was a beautiful time without pain;
but in the light of the cross of Christ and the abundant
graces showered upon us through it, there is no better
time than the present. Thus the Basilica Hymn of the
First Sunday of the Cross looks back toward the past
with critical eyes:
Before
your crucifixion, O Savior, the deceit of Satan had
troubled the whole creation, and until then
the race of men had been enslaved under the yoke of
Death, the murderer of our race.
The Revolt
Similarly, the ordinary way of thinking about
the “status quo,” the way things currently are, is that
authority is good and disobedience is bad. While this is
obviously the case in the ultimate sense of things,
there is a way in which even this basic ordering is
reversed by the cross. When the authority, when the one
being obeyed, is invalid, then
obviously rebellion is the right path; when the one
giving orders is Satan, then the best thing we can be is
disobedient.
This is not merely imaginative thinking. Satan
is named the “prince of this world,” (John 12:31) and
Paul refers to the “reign of darkness” (Col 1:13). This
prince, this reign, is false and misleading. Christ
chose obedience to God, and by his rebellion against the
evil reign of Satan through his death on the cross, he
single-handedly overturned the authority that had
enslaved this world:
But the wood of the cross killed Death and undid Sin,
and raised our race from the dead.
On Earth, as it is in Heaven
Finally, the dividing line between heaven and
earth being precisely this difference in kingship,
Christ made peace and unified the two parts of creation
which had been sundered by the disobedience of Adam. In
Christ, in his death on the cross, which was the
ultimate act of obedience to the Father, making up for
the disobedience of Adam, and the ultimate act of
selfless love, making up for the selfishness of Adam,
earth, meaning the souls of the faithful, the Church,
becomes like heaven in obeying the will of the Father.
In Christ, we become a new kingdom, one which has risen
up by grace to defeat the reign of the evil one and
established, in the holy Church and in our souls, the
new
kingship of the Messiah and the new obedience to the
will of the Father.
Because of this, the joy known on earth is
felt in heaven among the angels – for if Christ said
that there will be joy in heaven over one sinner who
repents (Luke 15:4), how much more will the angels
rejoice over the whole Church, the segment of the human
race which uprose against Satan in Christ and accepted
the Kingdom of the
Father:
The exalted beings marveled at our race which had been
raised and brought above all
sufferings. Because of this, we cry out unceasingly and
say: glory to you who raised up our race!

سنة لتكريس كنيسة مار بطرس. إن أعضاء خورنة مار بطرس وضعوا
الحَجَر الاساسي للكنيسة يوم الجمعة

كرّس الكنيسة غبطة البطريرك مار بولس الثاني شيخو. وفي
اليوم التالي الأحد أقام غبطته أول قداس في كنيسة مار بطرس
الجديدة.
لقد أعلن الكرسي الرسولي في روما عن تأسيس أبرشية مار بطرس
للكلدان والآثوريين الكاثوليك في غرب أميركا يوم ٤ أيار
۲۰۰۲م،
وتعيّن سيادة المطران مار سرهد يوسب جمّو أول مطران
للابرشية الجديدة . ويوم

أصبحت خورنة مار بطرس مقرّ كرسي مطرانية مار بطرس. وتغيّر
إسمها من خورنة مار بطرس إلى كاتدرائية مار بطرس الكلدانية
الكاثوليكية.

وضع حجر الاساس لكنيسة ام المعونة الدائمة في سكرمنتو-
كاليفورنيا
رغم ارتفاع درجات حرارة الشمس المحرقة، فقد توجه ابناء
الخورنة الى ارض الكنيسة الواقعة على شارع (هيزل) للاحتفال
بوضع حجر الاساس لكنيستهم يوم السبت 16-8- 2008، من قبل
راعي الابرشية سيادة المطران مار سرهد يوسب جمو الجزيل
الاحترام، وبمشاركة المطران المساعد لاْبرشية سكرمنتو
الكاثوليكية، وسيادة المطران مار باواي سورو، وممثل مطران
الاْبرشية، وكاهن الرعية الاب كمال وردا بيداويد. هذا وقد
حضر الاحتفال ايضاً لفيف من الكهنة الافاضل، والشمامسة
الكرام والاخوات الراهبات الفاضلات.
بداْ الاحتفال بالنشيد الطقسي (شباح لمريا بقوذشيه) ثم
تبعه الصلوات الخاصة بكذا مناسبة ورتلت الاناشيد الطقسية.
وقد القى كاهن الرعية في ختام الاحتفال كلمة، اشاد فيها
بالجهود الكبيرة والتضحيات الجمة التي قدمها سيادة راعي
الابرشية وابناء الخورنة الكرام والمسوؤلين الروحانيين
والمدنيين مؤكداً في الوقت عينه ان هذه الكنيسة ستكون بعون
اللـه وشفاعة العذراء ام المعونة الدائمة مدرسة لخلق اناس
مخلصين وغيورين للمبادئ والقيم السماوية ومساهمين في
ازدهار وتقدم هذا البلد العظيم اميركا.
شاكراً الجميع على حضورهم الاحتفال.

من مقال: الإشـاعـة والنـقـد الهـدام

قصة: كان هناك كاهن غيور يخدم خورنته بتقوى ومخافة الرب.
جاءت اليه يوما إمرأة تعترف له بخطاياها قائلة "يا ابانا
سامحني لقد تكلمت بالسوء عنك" فأجابها الكاهن الغيور
"اللـه يسامحك يا إبنتي" واراد ان يعلمها درسا لن تنساه
فقال ”إن قانون إعترافك هو "هل لك وسادة من الريش؟" قالت
"نعم" قال لها "أنثري ريش تلك الوسادة في ازقة القرية
وارجعي لأرى ما فعلت" وبعد ايام رجعت. فقال لها الكاهن
"ألآن إذهبي وإجمعي الريش كله من الأزقة" فقالت "كيف ذلك
يا ابانا؟ فالريح قد نثر الريش في كل مكان ولا اقدر ان
اجمعه" فقال لها انت قد اسأت الى سمعتي لدى الناس هل
تستطيعين إصلاح ذلك؟" فأحنت رأسها حياء وتابت عن فعلتها
ولم تعد تتكلم بالسوء عن أحدٍ.
قال احدهم "ما اطيب الكلام عن الناس" وقال آخر ”إذا لا
نتكلم عن الآخرين فبماذا نتكلم؟" ولكن اقول من انت حتى
تدين الآخرين، وهل ترضى أن يتكلم الناس عنك بالسوء؟ أعلم
جوابك مسبقا وهو "لا أرغب" إذاً طبق القاعدة الذهبية التي
تقول "إعمل للناس ما تريد ان يعمله الناس لك".
عادة تلوث مجتمعاتنا وتسيء لعلاقاتنا الأجتماعية
والأنسانية، وهي تلويث سمعة الآخرين ورؤية نواقصهم
وتضخيمها ومد إصبع الأتهام اليهم! هناك من في طبعه روح
الإنتقاد الهدام وهذا طبعا يتأتي من تبرير الذات. إذا كان
بيتك من زجاج فهل ترشق بيوت الآخرين بالحجارة؟ هل يطلق
المرء الإشاعات ضد الآخرين وهو مليء بالنواقص والهفوات.
كيف يرى المرء عيوب أخيه ويبالغ في سردها وهو نفسه مليء
بالعيوب؟
وكما يقول المسيح
"لماذا تنظر الى القشة في عين اخيك ولا تبالي بالخشبة في
عينك، ... أخرج الخشبة من عينك أولا حتى تبصر جيدا فتخرج
القشة من عين اخيك" (لوقا 7: 1-5)
وهل يعلم من يطلق الإشاعات إنه يقترف جريمة؟ إذ من المحتمل
أن تقتل إنسانا عندما تسيء الى سمعته وتطعن به وتلوث شرفه،
ومع الأسف الشديد كثيرون ومنهم من وصل الى درجات ومناصب
عليا يلتجئ الى هذه الوسيلة الدنيئة، عندما يريد ان ينتقم
من شخص لا يجاريه او لا يؤيده او ليس مواليا له في مخططاته
ومصالحه الشخصية والعنصرية والفئوية، فيقوم بتلويث سمعته
وأخلاقه والطعن في شرفه وهو بريء تماما مما اتهم به.
من جهة أخرى فكر بالذي تدينه، اليس هو اخوك في المسيح
والمسيح مات من اجله ايضا، اليس هو قريبك او جارك، اليس هو
أنسان مثلك، بدل ان تحاربه وتكسر في سمعته اليس من الأفضل
ان تتضامن معه وتدافع عنه وتمدحه في كل ما هو جميل فيه،
وتمنع كل من يفتري عليه ويسىء الى سمعته. تذكر موقف يسوع
من الزانية عندما قال لراجميها
"من منكم بلا خطيئة فليرمها بأول حجر" (يوحنا 8: 7)
وقال ايضا
"وانا لا أحكم عليك إذهبي ولا تخطئي بعد الآن" (يوحنا 8:
11).
موقف إلهي وإنساني معا إنه موقف الأبطال والمدافعين عن
المستضعفين والمظلومين، لا هو يدينها ولا يقبل ان يدينها
أحد، بل يعطيها فرصة أخرى لتحيا وتتوب.
أيها القاريء أحذرك من صاحب اللسان المنتقد فإنه يستمد
أوامره:
1- من العين غير المدربة على رؤية الخير والجمال في
الآخرين .
2- من العقل الجامد الذي لا يفكر بل يطلق الأحكام جزافا
على هذا وذاك، ولا يعمل بالمثل الشعبي القائل "دور لسانك
في فمك سبع مرات قبل ان تتكلم".
3- من القلب الجاحد الذي لا يريد الخير للآخرين إذ ليس فيه
روح الله ولا محبة اللـه، فهو بعيد عن الأيمان لا يعمل
بكلام اللـه وليس فيه محبة القريب.
أما انت أيها القاريء العزيز،
- إذا لدغتك الإشاعة فلا تفقد اعصابك وتنزل الى مستوى من
فعلها وترد الصاع صاعين، بل أنصحك أن تتماسك وتعلو
باخلاقك وتصبر ولا تبالي بما قيل عنك كذبا.
- إرم الأشاعة جانبا وكن على علم أن من يطلق الأشاعات شخص
تاف ضعيف لا تعيره إنتباهك، يعمل هذا لأنه يشعر بالنقص،
ومن المحتمل أن يكون العيب فيه، ولكي لا ينتبه الناس اليه
يمد أصبع الإتهام الى الآخرين.
- كن واثقا من نفسك وصادقا ونزيها في ما تعمل، وإعلم أن
الإشاعة كالطين الملقى على حائط نظيف قد لا يلتصق به.
- إذا انتقدت احدا فليكن نقدك بناء. وليكن اسلوبك في النقد
جميلا ولطيفا. واذا انتقدك احد وكان انتقاده في مكانه
فاقبله بكل تواضع ومحبة.
- أهمل كل إشاعة سيئة تسمعها.
- صل من أجل من اطلق الأشاعة الكاذبة ليهديه اللـه.
- لا تؤمن بنصف ما تسمعه.
- لا تكرر نصف الذي تؤمن به.
- إحذر من أنصاف الحقائق فقد تحصل على النصف الخاطىء.
- تأكد قبل ان تطلق أي حكم.
- ليكن معلوما لديك أن اكثر ألإشاعات أمور سطحية قد تعمم
بسهولة.
- اعلم ان هناك من يصنع من الحبة قبة.
- إن صاحب النقد الهدام والإشاعة المغرضة لا يتقدم ولا
يرتفع الى العلى لأنه بإستمرار ينزل الى أسفل.
أما انت ايها القاريء الكريم إعمل بمبادئك وأخلاقك وتحاشى
الأشاعة والنقد الهدام وإعمل بوصية السيد المسيح
"أحبوا بعضكم بعضا كما أنا احببتكم".

عيد انتقال مريم العذراء الى السماء
كاتدرائية مار بطرس في

احتفلت كاتدرائية مار بطرس الكلدانية بعيد انتقال العذراء
مريم الى السماء بالنفس والجسد
في 15 آب.
افتتح المناسبة سيادة ابينا المطران مار سرهد يوسب جمو
بالاحتفال بالقداس الالهي في تمام السادسة عصرا، تبعه
منهاج صلاة الوردية المقدسة في زياح وتطواف بصورة العذراء
في ساحة كاتدرائية مار بطرس، انتهت بتجمع المؤمنين بالمئات
لاقتبال البركات من والدة اللـه القديسة، مثلما قال سيادة
مار سرهد وهو يعطي البركة امام المغارة "كي يرفعنا ابنها
اليه كما رفعها".

ارسالية مار يوسف في شمال سان دييگو

احتفلت جماعة ارسالية مار يوسف بالقداس الالهي يوم الاحد
17 اب 2008. بعد الانتهاء من القداس قام احد الشمامسة
بقراءة قصة الانتقال واحداثها حسب التقليد الكنسي. بعد ذلك
بدأ زياح تمثال العذراء مريم داخل الكنيسة بسبب حلول
الظلام في الخارج مع ترتيل الحان للعذراء. اختتم الاحتفال
بتقبيل صورة انتقال العذراء، ثم غادر المؤمنون في حماية
وشفاعة مريم البتول امنا.

وقد تناولت موعظة
الكاهن تاريخ هذه العقيدة ومدى تأثيرها على حياة المسيحيين
المؤمنين كافة. فللعذراء مريم حب كبير واحترام بنوي عظيم
منذ بداية المسيحية، وسيبقى هذا الحب والاحترام متاججين في
قلوبهم حتى النهاية. كما وطلب من الجميع الاْلتجاء اليها
وطلب حمايتها كل حين بعد القداس بداْ الزياح (التطواف) من
الكنيسة واستقر امام المغارة المشيدة على اسم مريم العذراء
سيدة ترلوك. ووسط زغاريد النساء واهازيج الاطفال توّجت
احدى النساء التمثال. باكليل خاص واختتم الاحتفال باْناشيد
مريمية مختارة، ثم تناول الجميع بعد ذلك عشاء المحبة
(دوخرانا) المعد لهذه المناسبة المباركة. |

كنيسة مار اوراها في اريزونا
إحتفلت كنيسة مار اوراها يوم الأحد 17-8 -2008 بعيد
إنتقال العذراء الى السماء، فتهافتت جموع كثيرة الى
الكنيسة بهذه المناسبة العزيزة على قلب كل مؤمن مستصحبة
الورود تعبيرا عن محبتها لمريم العذراء وإشتركت في الذبيحة
الإلهية بتقوى وخشوع، وكرمت أمها مريم بتطواف جميل وراء
تمثالها داخل الكنيسة منشدة التراتيل والمدائح واخيرا طبعت
الجموع قبلة المحبة على صورتها وفي النهاية إقتسم الحاضرون
بينهم وجبة غداء بكل فرح وبهجة.

كنيسة القديسة بربارة في لاس فيگاس
احتفلت كنيسة القديسة بربارة بعيد انتقال مريم العذراء الى
السماء بالنفس والجسد، حيث ابتدأ الاحتفال بزياح تمثال
امنا العذراء من خارج الكنيسة الى الداخل بالترانيم التي
قدمتها جوقتنا الموقرة والتي تبذل جهودا كبيرة بقيادة الاخ
العزيز بسام ابونا وجميع اعضاء الجوقة. وبعد الاحتفال
بالقداس الالهي رتل الجميع ترتيلة
(بشما دبابا وبرونا) وتقبيل صورة العذراء وبعدها شاركت
العوائل في جلسة عائلية في قاعة الكنيسة، مع لعبة البينكو.

You May Have Seen Me

Driving down Chase Avenue the other day I asked myself
why I was late to my appointment. God answered me. Fifty
yards ahead a red car had flipped over in the right lane
of the two-way street. I got out of my car, and the lady
in the car in front of me said “I think you’d better get
over there.” The driver had run away and someone was
still stuck
inside the car. Other people had stopped, and we
sprinted to the car. I heard a woman shouting at the 911
operator on her cell phone. The door was jammed so I
told everyone to lift the back of the car so someone
could grab the guy.
After pulling the guy, who was maybe 19 or 20 years old,
out of the car, we tried talking to him. He had a scared
and confused look on his face, and he didn’t seem to
hear anything as we tried to talk to him. He just stared
back. I sat by his head and was trying to talk to him,
and I heard loud metal music playing in the car. I
glanced in the car, and in the back seat I saw empty
beer cans everywhere.
I started asking myself, “didn’t he have anything better
to do in his life than get drunk?” For some reason, I
started thinking about the high school and college
students at our church, and how lucky they are to have
things like Bible Studies on Mondays and Tuesdays,
choir on Friday nights, and youth group on Saturday
nights.
While I was thinking, I realized traffic was backing up
everywhere and no police or emergency services had
arrived yet. Two other people and I had to direct
traffic. We worked together letting one side of traffic
flow at a time. I was on the East end of Chase by the
7/11, one person was in the middle, and the third by
Fuerte Road. Once the first officer arrived he blocked
the flow of traffic, stopping it from flowing through
Chase. If you passed 7/11 and were driving up Chase,
chances are you saw me stopping everyone and telling
them to turn around because the road was blocked. By
chance, I saw many people I know driving up Chase that
day asking me why I was directing traffic in the middle
of the street, including Father Andy. It was initially
him who encouraged me to discuss my experience and write
this article.
I learned a lot from this experience but most of all I
am thankful. Thankful that God put me in that situation.
I’m thankful for all the activities and places for our
young people to go and that those activities are “still
cool.”
Finally, I am just glad that I was set there by God to
help out with what ever I could. I am not sure what
happened to that guy or the driver, but I still continue
to pray for them.

St. Peter's
Family Festival
Food,
games, music and fun are only a few words to describe
the St. Peter's Family Festival that took place on
Saturday, August 30. Threatening rain clouds and boiling
humidity did not stop us from coming together and
enjoying the day. From washing cars to jousting, the
Family Festival was a wonderful event that brought the
community together.
A special thanks to everyone who volunteered & supported
this event and made it a special day for all who
attended, especially the children of our community.

meetings of the Organization and the executive board,
which is the legal record of this ORGANIZATION.
* Be prepared to refer to minutes of previous meetings.
* Prepare a list of all unfinished business for the use
of the president.
* Keep a current copy of the bylaws, standing rules, and
duties of officers.
* Maintain member lists.
* Produce documents, letters and emails as needed.
* Must be MS Office proficient.
* Perform such other duties as may be delegated to the
secretary.
