TREE OF LIFE

QUEEN OF THE FIELDS

  In the ancient Aramaic idiom, to “go to the field” or to “go to the vineyard” means simply to go to work.  In a society where farming is the dominant way of life, wealth meant to have expanded acreage requiring many workers.  Part of the farming, as sowing and planting, though an assiduous job, may not require too many workers, but harvesting and collecting is certainly a rushing matter, calling for a massive effort, lest exposing the precious bounty to damage or many perils.

            The Lord presents to us his teaching regarding the Kingdom of Heaven through the means of parables, among which the Parable of the Vineyard (Math. 20, 1-16) is quite powerful and inspiring, allowing a rich variety of explanations and applications.  A basic interpretation would certainly assert that:

a)      God is the owner of the whole spiritual realm that constitutes the Kingdom of heaven.

b)      His domain is a vast vineyard requiring many hired hands;

c)      At different intervals, he selects his workers among those who make themselves openly available.

d)      A fair reward is promised and certainly awaiting.

e)      Never is it too late for presenting ourselves and joining the spiritual crew.

f)        When rewarded, God’s generosity goes beyond our standards.

g)      Each one should be concerned for himself and appreciate his recompense.  Our satisfaction and happiness should not depend on how we score vis-à-vis our colleagues, but on the fact of working for this Royal owner.

Mary and the Fields, Mary and the Vineyard  

Since Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out toward Mary: “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed it the fruit of thy womb.” (Lk 1, 41-42), Mary is duly looked at as the queen and the patron of every fruitful endeavor.  She is the Tree of Life planted in the ultimate paradise that gave to the whole human race Jesus the divine fruit, in whom is the fullness of life.

            Our Diocesan Workers of the Vineyard, to be dedicated to the Kingdom of Heaven on the Marian Commemoration according to the Chaldean Calendar, cannot find a more efficient patron, a more compelling model, and a more loving and blessing mother, than the Mother of the Lord.  In her hands I commend this diocesan Association of dedicated faithful, at this moment of its foundation and initiation.

Lost and Found

I used to walk alone,

Trying to get home.

But my burdens were so great,

That to break down was my fate.

I thought I had the strength

To go on independently.

But inside I was so weak

Reality caught up to me.

When I heard that I was nothing

But a failure and a fake,

I kept it in my soul,

And even believed it on some days.

I kept turning to the left,

Leaving the right paths all alone.

And with every step I took,

I was farther away from home.

My load just grew and grew and grew,

And I couldn’t think of what to do.

You were behind me the whole way.

You knocked, but I turned you away.

I knew that without you,

I couldn’t move on.

But even as I fell,

I kept traveling along.

Walking alone.

Trying to find home.

My inevitable fate

waiting to explode:

I broke down,

And I started to drown.

I looked for help

from anyone,

But as they turned away,

I thought I was done.

I looked up

to see if I could surface.

You looked down.

I began to feel nervous.

Your great hand

reached out to help me,

And you stood me up,

And I couldn’t believe.

I couldn’t believe

you were there the whole time,

Watching and waiting,

Until time was prime.

My door is now open,

You don’t have to knock.

احتفالات بتذكار الربان هرمزد ومار گورگيس

سان دييگو

رعى سيادة المطران مار سرهد يوسب جمو السامي الاحترام راعي الابرشية الكلدانية لكاليفورنيا وغرب امريكا ، الاحتفال بشيرا الربان هرمزد الذي تقيمه سنويا جمعية مار ميخا الخيرية في سان دييگو. وقد حضر سيادته موقع الاحتفال ( حدائق وبارك المونتيه ) بصحبة لفيف من اعضاء مجلس خورنة الابرشية ، وكانت في استقباله الجموع المحتشدة من ابناء رعيته التي فرحت كثيرا للفتة سيادته الكريمة بمشاركته اياهم احتفالاتهم وافراحهم .

          بعدها صدحت الموسيقى وترتبت حلقات الدبكة لتبث جواًَ من الفرح العفوي بين الحاضرين الذين امضوا يوما جميلا ممتعا. أحيت الاحتفال فرقة أكد الموسيقية والفنانون: * نسيم الصاحب

اورنج كاونتي

ابتدأت الاحتفالات بعيد مار كوركيس، في كنيسة مار كوركيس في سانتا آنا ودير مار كوركيس في رفرسايد، يوم الثلاثاء  24نيسان 2007 حيث ذهبت مجموعة من كنيسة مار كوركيس مع راعي الكنيسة الاب اندراوس توما الى الدير. وبعد الظهر زار الدير كل من المطران جوزيف يونان راعي ابرشيتي نيوجرسي وكندا للسريان الكاثوليك، والقس يوسف حبش من كنيسة السريان الكاثوليك في لوس انجلوس، والاب نوئيل كوركيس راعي كنيسة مار بولص في لوس انجلوس. بعد الاحتفال بالقداس الالهي تناول الجميع وجبة غداء.

   وفي اليوم التالي الاربعاء Apr 25,2007 زارت الدير مجموعة من كنيسة مار ميخا في سان دييگو، وبعد صلاة الوردية احتفل الجميع بالذبيحة الالهية ، وقدّم الحاضرون الصلاة من اجل بلدنا الام العراق وجميع والمؤمنين. وبعد القداس الالهي كانت هناك وجبة غداء مشتركة، ولعبة البينكَو.

  وفي يوم الاحد Apr 29,2007 احتفلت كنيسة مار كوركيس في سانتا آنا بعيد مار كوركيس والربان هرمزد، وبعد القداس الالهي انطلق الجميع في نزهة خارج الكنيسة للاحتفال بالعيد على انغام DJ ماهر دانيال، ومسابقات منها البينكو كرة الطائرة وغيرها.

   نطلب من شفيع كنيستنا مار كوركيس والربان هرمزد ان يحفظا جميع مؤمنينا اينما وجدوا، وبالاخص بلدنا الام العراق الذي يعاني الحرمان والآلام في هذه الايام العسيرة راجينَ من امنا العذراء والمسيح القائم من بين الاموات ان يحفظهم وان يحل بينهم السلام.

اريزونا

احتفلت كنيسة مار اوراها الكلدانية في اريزونا يوم الاحد 29/ 4/ 2007،  بتذكار الشهيد مار كوركيس والقديس ربان هرمزد، حيث اقامت الكنيسة شيرا بهذه المناسبة على حدائق مدرسةIndian School & Hayden ، وقد حضره عدد كبير من المؤمنين بعد ان شاركوا بالذبيحة الالهية. ثم تناول الجميع الغداء سوية رمزاً للوحدة والمحبة التي تربطنا جميعاً. واحيوا هذه المناسبة، كما هو مألوف لدى ابناء جاليتنا، بالرقصات الشعبية مما ادخل البهجة والفرحة في قلوب الحاضرين واستمر الاحتفال حتى ساعة متأخرة من ذلك النهار. تحياتنا لجميع العاملين والمعدّين لهذه المناسبة ونأمل المزيد لخير ابناء الكنيسة وسلام الرب يسوع مع جميعكم.

عيـد الأم

الأم هي بهجة الدنيا وقرة العين، هي مبعث الحنان وينبوع العطاء والسعادة. هي الشمعة المضيئة التي أحترقت وأنارت لنا دربنا ثم ذبلت حتى أزهرت لنا حياتنا لنحقق ما تصبو اليه نفوسنا.

   الأم هي الأمل المشرق الذي نقتبس منه الصبر والأيمان والجد والمثابرة. هي سر الترابط الأسري، وهي أحلى كلمة قيلت في الحياة. فأيتها الأم يا من تفرشين لنا مساحات من الحب وتمنحين السعادة الى كل من حولك، باقة ورد ملؤها المحبة والأعتراف بالجميل نقدمها لكِ في يومكِ الأغّر. 

آنا م. جارفس (1864- 1948):  هي صاحبة فكرة ومشروع جعل يوم عيد الأم إجازة رسمية في الولايات المتحدة، فهي لم تتزوج قط وكانت شديدة الارتباط بوالدتها، وكانت ابنة للدير، وتدرس في مدرسة الأحد التابعة للكنيسة النظامية "أندرو" في جرافتون غرب فرجينيا، وبعد موت والدتها بسنتين بدأت حملة واسعة النطاق شملت رجال الأعمال والوزراء ورجال الكونگرس، لإعلان يوم عيد الأم عطلة رسمية في البلاد، وكان لديها شعور أن الأطفال لا يقّدرّون ما تفعله الأمهات خلال حياتهم، وكانت تأمل أن يزيد هذا اليوم من إحساس الأطفال والأبناء بالأمهات والآباء، وتقوى الروابط العائلية المفقودة.

البداية:  قامت الكنيسة بتكريم الآنسة آنا جارفس في جرافتون غرب فرجينيا وفلادلفيا وبنسلفانيا في 10 آيار 1908، وكانت هذه بداية الاحتفال بعيد الأم في الولايات المتحدة.

وكان القرنفل من ورود والدتها المفضلة وخصوصاً الأبيض، لأنه يعبر عن الطيبة والنقاء والتحمل والذي يتميز به حب الأم، ومع مرور الوقت أصبح القرنفل الأحمر إشارة إلى أن الأم على قيد الحياة، والأبيض أن الأم رحلت عن الحياة.

Here’s how to begin a Mother’s Day Celebration

One of the best ways to celebrate Mother’s Day is to give your mom the day off. Let her take it easy and relax while the rest of the family does the work.

Many families begin Mother’s Day with breakfast in bed. Usually Dad and the kids will let mom sleep late as they go into the kitchen and prepare her favorite meal. But make sure to clean after yourselves or else mom will be mad.

After the food is cooked, arrange everything nicely on a tray. Don’t forget the vase with a fresh pretty flower. Carefully carry the tray up to her bedroom.  To add that special Mother’s Day touch, cards and small presents from the children can be placed on the tray. My personal preference, I always place the present and the card early morning on her nightstand so when mom wakes up, she is in for a surprise!

And of course, DON’T forget the hug and the kiss!!

“The Legion of Mary”

Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?

“The virgin’s name was Mary.”

“The Legion of Mary! What a perfectly chosen name!”

The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of it’s members developed by prayer and active co-operation at the disposal of our diocese Bishop Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo and the parish priest Father Michael Bazzi; for any form social service and Catholic action which these authorities may deem suitable to the legionaries and useful for the church.

The first enrollment of legionaries of Mary took place in San Diego, CA at St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Cathedral on November 2005.

We highly encourage the people who have the ability in self-sacrifice for any social service and Catholic function to be in the Legio Mariae.

الأخوية المريمية "الليجوماريِِِِِِِِِه"

مَنْ هذه المشرقة كالصبح، الجميلة كالقمر، الساطعة كالشمس، الرهيبة كصفوف تحت الرايات (سفر نشيد الأناشيد 6: 10).

        ان الغاية من تأسيس (الأخوية المريمية) هي تقديس اعضائها بالصلاة والمساهمة الفعلية بحسب توجيهات الرئاسة الكنسية اينما كانت وهنا في سان دييگو وتحديداً في ابرشيتنا الكلدانية من قبل سيادة المطران مار سرهد يوسپ جمو الجزيل الاحترام والأب ميخائيل بزي خوري الرعية للقيام بجميع انواع الخدمات الاجتماعية أو العمل الكاثوليكي الذي تراه السلطات الكنسية اكثر ملائمة واوفر نفعاً لأزدهار الكنيسة.

        ”الليجوماريِه تُظهر وجه الكنيسة الكاثوليكية الحقيقي“، وترتكز من بعد اللـه على مريم العذراء التي حباها ورفعها الى درجة سامية من القداسة تفوق الادراك، وهي خليقته الممتازة. وقد جعلها وسيطة النعمة الخاصة لنا. فنحن اذا سلكنا متحدين بها، إزددنا تقرباً اليه، ونلنا مقداراً أوفر من النعم، لأن مريم، عروسة الروح القدس، هي القناة الناقلة الينا كل نعمة استحقها لنا سيدنا يسوع المسيح بصليبه والآمه وموته وقيامته، والميزة التي تتحلى بها الليجوماريِه هي إكرام امنا مريم البريئة من الدنس. حيث ان هذه الأخوية تخص تماماً البتول العذراء والدة اللـه. ومن مقومات الانتماء اليها تتطلب شروطاً وهي: النوعية الجيدة في انتقاء اعضائها لتتحفز في نموها الى الامام ولتتكاثر عدداً ونوعية جيدة في الخدم التي تؤديها للمجتمع بصلواتها وتضحياتها بموجب النظام الكنسي. ان رسالة الليجوماريه هي رسالة  علمانية في كتلة اعضائها تعمل باتحاد مع كهنتها وتحت ادارتهم وارشاداتهم.

        تم تأسيس الليجوماريِه والانضمام الى لوائها في سان دييگو في شهر تشرين الثاني 2005  في كاتدارئية مار بطرس الكلدانية، ولقبت الفرقة بـ (سيدة ام النعم)، وبعد زيادة عدد الاعضاء تم انشاء فرقة جديدة ولقبت بـ (سيدة ام الرحمة). وحالياً مرشدها الروحي هو الأب بولس خمي. وتحثّ الكنيسة المؤمنين الانقياء للانخراط في هذه الاخوية من اجل خدمة الكنيسة بممارسة العمل الرسولي والارتقاء الى اسمى مستويات القداسة الموجودة لدى كثيرين في جاليتنا الكلدانية الموقرة.

     من اهم نشاطات الليجوماريِه حالياً: تنصيب تمثال العذراء (سيدة فاطمة) في البيوت، وفي حفلة التكريس تتلى الصلوات والابتهالات (ايتها العذراء سلطانتنا وأمّنا). ومَن يرغب بأقامة هذه الصلاة في بيته او الانضمام الى الليجوماريه يرجى الاتصال باعضاء الاخوية على الرقم 7913-579 (619).

Expansion of St. Peter the Apostle Diocesan Advisory Council

His Excellency Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo
appointed 10 new members to the Diocesan Advisory Council to include representatives from all the regional communities of the Diocese. The new council consists of nineteen members from the following regions:

1-     San Diego region: Aziz Razoky (Chairman),
Najib Konja, Manal Naoom, Noori Barka, Arkan Somo, Tony Oshana, Nashat Damman, Najib Oram, Thomas Meram, and Samir Gorou.

2-    Escondido & Poway region: Basil Makdesi.

3-    Riverside & Orange region: William Jebo, and
Angela Disacco.

4-    Los Angeles region: Ashour Khosrowabadi, and Sarkhadoun Yadegar.

5-    North California region: Raymond George,
Ninoos Yadegar, and Tom Simon.

6-    Las Vegas region: Raghid Kosa.

7-    Phoenix region: (to be appointed).

The mandate of this council is the following:

1-   Providing advice to the Bishop on civil matters of the
Diocese.

2-   Promoting cultural and educational programs, concerning the needs and the well being of the Chaldean and Assyrian community.

3-   Organizing social Diocesan events and conventions.

4-   Giving advice on financial matters, and organizing
fundraisers for Diocesan projects.

5-   Representing the Diocese on governmental and social events.

The expanded Diocesan Advisory Council conducted its first meeting

at St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Cathedral in El Cajon, CA, April 17-18, 2007.

The first session included introduction and orientation to the new members followed by a joint meeting with the Bishop and clergy of our Diocese. His Excellency Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo opened the discussion on the role of the advisory council in providing his Excellency with advice on civil matters, promoting cultural and education
programs, and organizing diocesan social events and conventions. This discussion was followed by the feedback from each member on the proposed Diocesan general convention for Chaldeans & Assyrians of 2009. 

The second session included:

1-   The general structure of the advisory council and the role of each committee

The Advisory Council’s committees were expanded to include new members from all the regional communities of our diocese.

a. Social Committee

Chairperson: Manal Naoom, Co-chair: Tony Oshana, and Angela Disacco.

b. Public Relations Committee (humanitarian &
human rights)

Chairperson: Dr. Noori Barka, Co-chair: Raymond George, Basil Makdesi, and Tony Oshana.

c. Governmental Relations Committee

Chairperson: Arkan Somo, Co-chair: Nashat Damman, Tom Simon, and Raymond George.

d. Finance & Fundraising Committee

Chairperson: Najib Konja, Co-chair: Najib Oram, Thomas Meram, and Ninoos Yadegar.

2- Proposed Diocesan General Convention for Chaldeans & Assyrians in 2009

The idea of a Diocesan General Convention for Chaldeans & Assyrians was presented by his Excellency Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo. He requested that the Advisory Council present a proposal by July 2007 to be submitted to the
Diocesan priests for discussion. The proposal should include feasibility studies, convention theme, proposed location and time for the convention. The advisory council established a committee from the following members to prepare the proposal: Aziz Razoky, Dr. Noori Barka (Chairperson), Manal Naoom, Arkan Somo, Raymond George and
Sarkhadoun Yadegar.

3- Diocesan Advisory Council activities for 2007

a. July 22^nd-23^rd: Celebration of the 5^th year Anniversary of the establishment of St. Peter Diocese.

b. October 20^th, 2007: The Annual Bishop’s Dinner at St. Peter Hall.
