Honor the Chaldean Bishop
and His Cathedral in San Diego
In an unprecedented historical gesture, more than
100 Assyrian
Catholics from Saint Peter Diocese’s northern
California parishes
(i.e., Saint Matthew, Saint Mary & Saint Thomas)
arrived in San Diego on Friday, October 16, 2009,
for a three-day
“Pilgrimage
to the Cathedral”
in order to visit their Diocesan Eparch H.E. Mar
Sarhad Yawsip Jammo and receive blessings from him.
The program of the pilgrimage consisted of 3
encounters with the local community and diocesan
institutions and parishes, which have been
organized by the Diocese for these worthy guests:

The highlight of these encounters took place during
the Divine Liturgy celebrated by Bishop Jammo on
Sunday (October 18) at Saint Peter Cathedral where
the whole group of these faithful witnessed
for the first time, the celebration of the reformed
Chaldean Liturgy. It is expected that the
Assyrian-Chaldean parishes in northern
California will also follow the same reformed
version by early 2010. Indeed, the wonderful hours
spent with these brothers and sisters were short but
so impeccable. They expressed our common faith in
Jesus Christ and in the beauty of His One Holy
Catholic Church, in a way that words cannot
describe. This encounter of Chaldeans and Assyrians,
who are indeed brothers and sisters both in faith
and culture, and in Church Fathers & history,
was a taste of the future, a flavor of the love that
only coming of the Kingdom of God in our lives can
provide. Living the dream of the unity of Christ’s
Church is a vocation for us that we shall
pursue with faith and commitment
