Father
Zuhair (Anderaws ) Gorgis Toma - Fr. Toma was
born n Baghdad , Iraq . He entered the Order of Rabban Hormozid
monastery on August 5, 1987 and made his temporary vows on
August 5, 1989 . On October 1, 1992 he entered the Babylon
College in Baghdad to study philosophy and theology. On July
16, 1993 he made his permanent vows at Rabban Hormozid. On
September 26, 1996 he was sent to Beirut , Lebanon to continue
his education in philosophy and theology.
On July 17, 1999 , Fr. Toma graduated form the University of the
Holy Spirit in Lebanon , and on June 29, 2000 he was ordained a
priest. He arrived in the United States on June 13, 2001 and became
assistant pastor of St. Paul parish. On November 1, 2001 was assigned
as administrator of St. George parish in Santa Ana , California
, where he still serves.
History
- Fr. Emanual Shaletta was assigned the first priest of the
St. George mission.
- Apr. 28, 2001: Grand
opening of St. George parish. Church building dedicated. The
building (7,200 sq. ft) has a capacity for more than 180 people.
Fr. Polous Ghozairan assigned pastor. He served for seven months.
- Nov. 2001: Fr. Andrawes
Toma appointed pastor.
