CERGY
Fr. Reemon Sarkees was born in Baghdad, Iraq on March 22, 1982. At 17, he joined the St. Peter Seminary for High School boys and later entered the major seminary at 19. He studied there for seven years, spending three years studying philosophy and then four more years studying theology before finally graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. In 2007 he was ordained a priest at St. Joseph Cathedral.
He always knew that the life of a priest would not be easy, but he felt God’s call so strongly that he persevered in his studies and formation in order to serve God and His people. A few short years after his ordination, Fr. Reemon came to the United States to start a new life that would be free from the threats and kidnappings he had become so used to in Iraq. His first assignment in the States was in San Diego where he worked as a visiting priest at St. Peter Cathedral. After a short time, His Excellency, Mar Sarhad Y. Jammo assigned him as assistant pastor at Mar Auraha Parish in Arizona. Then, after serving two years in Arizona, he was re-assigned to St. Barbara Parish and is serving there until present.
