Diocesan Clergy Meeting
San Diego, CA
In a great spirit of priestly brotherhood, under the leadership
of HE Bishop Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo, the Eparch of the Diocese,
the Clergy of the Catholic Diocese of Saint Peter for Chaldeans
& Assyrians 16 priest of the Diocese, with the participation of
HE Bishop Mar Bawai Soro, gathered in El Cajon, CA, for two
days, May 13 & 14, 2009, to hold their periodic meeting with the
Bishop. The following issues were discussed as part of the
general agenda of the meeting:
(1)
The upcoming Diocesan Symposium & Convention (in January 2010)
on the occasion of the 1600th Anniversary of the
Synod of Mar Isaac in AD 410.
(2) Comprehensive evaluation of the Church unity achieved in
2008.
(3) The promotion of Marian & Other Saints’ Devotions in the
Parishes of the Diocese.
(4) Diocesan and Parish finances.

HE Bishop Jammo updated the present clergy about his recent trip
to Iraq during which he participated in the Chaldean Holy Synod
convened under the leadership of His Eminence Cardinal Mar
Emanuel III Delly, Catholicos Patriarch, between April 28, 2009,
and May 5, 2009 in Ankawa (Arbil).
The Bishop spoke in particular about the Chaldean Hierarchy’s
commitment to defend the Chaldean National Identity and Rights
in all of Iraq, in accordance to Article 125 of the Iraqi
Federal Constitution. He further elaborated about the many
challenges that face the Church faithful inside and outside
Iraq, in particular the proselytism that specifically targets
Chaldeans in order to divert them from Catholicism to various
religious sects.
Bishop Mar Sarhad, at the same time, conveyed the prayers, love
and support that the Chaldean Hierarchy have for all members of
the Chaldean Church, in particular the Chaldeans and Assyrian
Catholics who live as one community of faith and culture in the
fraternal bonds of the One Catholic Church, in Iraq, the Middle
East and the Western Countries. He expressed the Bishops’
blessing and support for the new movement of church unity of
Assyrians who have joined the Chaldean Catholic Church.
