St. Thérèse's Parents' Remains to
Be Moved
LISIEUX,
France, MAY 8, 2008 (Zenit.org).- As the process for the
beatification of the parents of St. Thérèse of Lisieux gets
closer, the bodies of Louis and Zélie Martin are being exhumed
and moved into the crypt of the
basilica dedicated to their daughter.
Louis (1823-1894) and Zelie (1831-1877) Martin are the parents
of St. Thérèse, who was proclaimed a doctor of the Church by
Pope John Paul II in 1997. Married in 1858, the Martins had nine
children. Four died in infancy and five entered the religious
life.
The recovery of a newborn in the Italian city of Monza,
currently under investigation by the Congregation for the
Saints' Causes, has been attributed to the Martins as a
miraculous cure after the infant's family prayed for their
intercession.
In March 1994, John Paul II proclaimed the Martin spouses
venerable. They might soon be the second married couple to be
beatified simultaneously. Luigi and Maria Beltrame Quattrocchi
were beatified in October 2001.
