John Paul II's
Tomb Not Being Moved
VATICAN CITY, MARCH 31, 2008 (Zenit.org).- The director of the
Vatican press office denied press rumors that Pope John Paul
II's tomb will be moved during these days from the Vatican
grottoes to the main floor of St. Peter's Basilica.
According to the Sunday edition of the Italian daily La Stampa,
a study in collaboration with the Vatican police was already
made about the transfer of John Paul II's remains. The report
announced that a Vatican commission presided over by Cardinal
Angelo Comastri already approved the study.
"I can decidedly deny the existence of a commission presided
over by Cardinal Comastri, and that has already made any
decision about the issue," Father Lombardi said in a statement.
He further clarified that it is "unfounded to speak of any
participation of the Vatican police," and explained that "any
decision about the issue will not be made before the
beatification" of the Polish Pope.
Father Lombardi stated that "what the article affirms doesn't go
beyond a simple hypothesis, whose discussion is totally
premature."
