At St. Peter Chaldean
Cathedral in
El Cajon, California, after the Stations of the
Cross, the same time His Excellency Mar Paulus Faraj Rahho
was kidnapped two weeks ago, Bishop Sarhad Yawsip Jammo
expressed in tender words the struggle of the Christians of
Iraq and the particular sacrifice of this shepherd of
the flock of Christ.
Red, the symbol of blood
and martyrdom, is the color of some of the garments given to
bishops at their consecration, and this bishop has made the
symbol a reality. Before a Cathedral filled completely with
hundreds of faithful, funeral hymns were sung in honor of
the recent martyr, followed by a procession of the Cross and
Bishop Rahho's picture, during which the clerics sang the
"Hymns of the Martyrs."
