Chaldean Institute of Mesopotamian Studies
Two-Month Course (October 3 – November 28, 2007)

 

Dates and Times:

The course is once a week, Wednesdays 7:00 – 9:00 PM for two months only, at St. Peter hall.

 

General Course Description: 

The course has 9 meetings, two sessions each. It is designed to be taught by five instructors covering six subjects: Biblical Christology, Patristic Christology, Liturgy I & II, Aramaic language, and History. Each subject will be completed within 3 sessions; therefore, attendance is very important, and absences are NOT permitted unless justified in advance. The clergy will teach mainly in English and some in Chaldean; however, they will allow the students to take the test in one of three languages: English, Arabic & Aramaic. The course is open to all qualified applicants (see Registration Form).

 

Graduation & Ordination:

Receiving a liturgical blessing or ordination is optional for those who qualify. The candidates for ordination must obtain the approval of their Pastor. Ordination will be celebrated after completing the course requirements and taking the test. For all students, the graduation ceremony will take place at the hall after the Ordination.

Ordination Qualifications

 

Qualifications required for candidates to the Order of Lectors, Sub-deacons, and Deacons:

 

1. The qualifications for the order of Lector:

 

1. Approval of the pastor.

 

2. Minimum age: 16 years old.

 

3. Candidate, male or female, must be actually performing an active role during liturgical or devotional ceremonies at our parishes, or, he/she must be a member of the Chaldean or English Choir.

 

2. The qualifications for the order of Sub-deacon:

 

1. Approval of the pastor.

 

2. Minimum age: 18 years old.

 

3. The candidate must have a good reputation and act and live according to the ethics of Christian social standards.

 

4. The candidate must be active participant in the liturgical services of the Church.

 

3. The qualifications for the Order of Deacon:

 

1. Presentation by the pastor.

 

2. Minimum age: 24 years old.

 

3. Must complete the theological and liturgical studies concerning the Diaconate degree as regulated by the Diocese.
4. Must collaborate with the pastor in parish duties. For example: parochial catechism, assisting in liturgical services and other functions.

 

5. Must be able to give preparatory lessons to catechism teachers.

 

6. Must be ready to participate in the liturgical services whenever needed in accordance with the pastor. For example: arranging the ceremonial of the liturgical services, preparing engaged couples for marriage, visiting prisoners and detainees, conducting funeral service at the cemetery, visiting the sick in the hospital, etc).
