5th Anniversary Ceremony for
Bishop Sarhad Yawsip Jammo
On Sunday, July 22, 2007, St. Peter’s Chaldean community
celebrated with Bishop Sarhad Yawsip Jammo his fifth anniversary
as Eparchial Bishop of St. Peter the Apostle Diocese for
Chaldeans and Assyrian. The ceremony included presentations by
the deacons and members of both the St. Peter’s and St.
Michael’s choir. Wasan Jarbo, a member of St. Peter’s media
center, read a poem that she wrote for the Bishop in three
languages; English, Aramaic, and Arabic. Deacon Hazim Shabilla also read a letter of thanks to the Bishop. Fr. Sabri, on behalf of
St. Michael’s Church, spoke of the many wonderful achievements
the Bishop has accomplished in his short time of serving the
diocese.
The bishop also spoke about each of the priests,
calling them the “roses of the community.” He addressed each of
the religious who were present and spoke beautifully of those
priests who could not attend the ceremony. His Excellency then
thanked all of the lay-people who were present for their support
and love. The ceremony was simple, but elegant; the joy and love
of the community toward the bishop made it seem like a banquet
fit for a king. This love was not only shown from the people
toward their bishop, but also from the bishop toward the sheep
of his flock.
