Temptation
By: Banipal Ablakhad

~Genesis 3:6~

“The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”

This moment of eating fruit from the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden represents the fall of man by giving into temptation leading to “original sin”, which all are born into but is forgiven through the sacrament of baptism. Adam and Eve, in general, represent the creation and the beginning of humanity. Today, temptation does not come in the form of fruit, rather it manifests itself in many other vices that seduce the human eye, such as: drugs, sex, stealing, wrath, and so much more.

Giving into these vices can cause us to commit moral crimes against ourselves and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Granted, God understands the weakness of the human flesh and mind; Jesus himself was also tempted by the devil in the desert, but he fought the temptation and did what was right. We must strive to become as our Lord, work hard and learn from his strength to always do what is right. This strength is not easy to attain, so we must seek refuge and guidance from our church, also, through prayer, fasting, and confession.
