Chaldean Patriarch Mar Emmanuel III Delly made Cardinal
The Chaldean Catholic Church around the world rejoiced as her Patriarch, Mar Emmanuel III Delly, was made a Cardinal at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The ceremony installed also 22 other heirarchs from around the world as Cardinals, but this is the first time in history that a Chaldean Patriarch was given the title.
Our Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle, including the Bishop, clergy and Chaldean and Assyrian faithful, with all of our boards and organizations, heartfully congratulate Mar Emmanuel III Delly, our Patriarch-Cardinal and all our Chaldean people, especially in Iraq, as an expression of our pride and joy. For this recognition given to our Patriarch, Church, people and mother Country in the midst of their hardship, we express deeply our appreciation toward our Holy Father Benedict XVI for granting him and us this honor.
