Fifth Annual Bishop's Dinner

Over five hundred faithful from around the Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle for Chaldeans and Assyrians joined their Bishop, Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo, as well as Bishop Mar Bawai Soro and many priests for the Fifth Annual Bishop's Banquet at St. Peter Hall on October 20, 2007. The event was very well organized, beginning with a welcome speech by Shamasha Aziz Razoky, Chairman of the Diocesan Advisory Council, which was followed by comments from Dr. Raymond George, Shamasha Bassam Aboona, and most importantly Mar Bawai Soro and Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo, who both spoke inspiringly about the unity of the Church of the East. Mar Sarhad Yawsip gave a special welcome to the faithful who came with Mar Bawai who were at the dinner, who had flown in for the event, and challenged Chaldeans and Assyrians to compete in showing brotherhood and love for one another. The night concluded with achievement medals being presented to Shamasha Faraj Hallak, Mr. Tony Oshana, Dr. Raymond George and Shamasha Aziz Razoky in recognition of all their service for their community.

The following morning, Mar Sarhad Yawsip and Mar Bawai attended both Sunday Masses at St. Peter Cathedral, each speaking, with great insight and clarity, regarding the brotherhood of Chaldeans and Assyrians, and the unity of the Church of the East. The sermons can be found here:
