2009 Youth Pilgrimage

Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle for Chaldeans & Assyrians

Open to  : Chaldean youth, 17-30

Dates  : Thursday, July 16 – Sunday, July 19

Theme

So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth." And when he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven."

What is a Pilgrimage?

A pilgrimage is a journey of the body as well as the soul in which our physical travels invoke the sense of spiritual progress toward God. As we move from site to site, visiting the Missions and Churches of California and learning about the saints and martyrs of our land, we reflect upon our journey to heaven and upon those who have gone before us.

What Will This Pilgrimage Be Like?

This pilgrimage will be a time of prayer and meditation. There will be talks and activities on the bus and at the different stops, and in order to encourage the spirit of prayer, reflection and meaningful conversation, there will be no cell phones, music players or video games allowed at any point during the pilgrimage. In case of emergency, parents will be given the cell phone numbers of the chaperones. In the same spirit, all pilgrims must dress and act modestly, follow the directions of the chaperones and participate in all activities.

This is not just a trip or a vacation; it is not a time to simply shop or “see the sights,” though there will be some time for both. It is a time to pray, reflect and grow closer to God, as well as bond with others and make deeper, more spiritual friendships.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Your right to refund should you choose to cancel your reservation is limited. Cancellations will be accepted only in exchange for a full-paying replacement pilgrim. Once you have made a deposit and confirmed, cancelled reservations are subject to a $50 per person fee for cancellations.

Withdraw After Pilgrimage Begins

Once the pilgrimage is in progress, St. Peter's Chaldean Catholic Cathedral will make no refund for any unused portion of the pilgrimage. St. Peter's Chaldean Catholic Cathedral also reserves the right to send you home at any time if your actions are inappropriate during the events. All additional costs to send a pilgrim home will be borne by the pilgrim.
