BOL HAS CHANGED MY LIFE
My first impression
of BOL was not a good one because I didn’t like the first
meeting I attended. If it wasn’t for my dad pushing me, I never
would have come. I didn’t like that I had to go in the middle of
a room full of people I didn’t know and introduce myself, but I
got over it eventually. As I started coming to more meeting I
got to know the people better and felt more comfortable with my
surroundings. My favorite part about the meetings is how we read
the bible readings every week before mass. This got us prepared
before we received the Holy Eucharist.
BOL has actually changed
my spiritual life very much as well. I cannot even compare where
I was last year to where I am today. Now, I actually know the
meaning of the mass. I am no longer attending mass for nothing,
I am coming for a purpose and it is to receive the Lord. I have
gone to adoration before I started to come to BOL, but I never
knew the true meaning of adoration until now. I would recommend
people to come to BOL because it helps them to really get to
know and have a stronger relationship with the Lord.

MY STORY
My first BOL meeting was about a year
ago, I did not know about anything going on in
the Chaldean church because I live far away and
at first I was a bit apprehensive about going.
After my first BOL meeting, I was pretty much
bent on not returning. However, two months later
I returned and attended a youth rally which
turned out to be an awesome experience because I
gained so much more respect for the faith and
for the next year I was attending BOL. During
that time I still thought everyone was annoying.
I was cold and rude to everyone, and didn't
hesitate to make fun of anyone there. I cracked
jokes constantly and spoke out with blasphemy.
There were many reasons why I
decided to keep attending BOL, one of which was
my desire to get in a praying habit, to this day
I am still struggling with remembering to pray
the rosary daily and to say a morning and
evening prayer, but I am getting better. Another
reason was that I felt really out of the loop. I
didn’t know any Chaldeans except the ones I grew
up with and I didn’t know anything about our
culture or how it ties in with our faith.
Growing up in Mira Mesa, I believed
Chaldeans were over zealous about the culture
and not the faith. However, BOL has introduced
me to some people who changed my perceptions. I
realized that they loved being Catholic and they
were some really cool people. They devote a life
to God, live normal lives, crack the same jokes
I do, watch the same TV I do, and do the same
things I or any other young adult does. They are
also zealous about being Chaldean and Catholic.
