First Reading:
Isaiah 56:1-7
Thus says the Lord: "Keep justice, and do
righteousness, for soon my salvation will come, and
my deliverance be revealed. Blessed is the man who
does this, and the son of man who holds it fast, who
keeps the Sabbath, not profaning it, and keeps his
hand from doing any evil." Let not the foreigner who
has joined himself to the Lord say, "The Lord will
surely separate me from his people"; and let not the
eunuch say, "Behold, I am a dry tree." For thus says
the Lord: "To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who
choose the things that please me and hold fast my
covenant, I will give in my house and within my
walls a monument and a name better than sons and
daughters; I will give them an everlasting name
which shall not be cut off.
"And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord,
to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord,
and to be his servants, every one who keeps the
sabbath, and does not profane it, and holds fast my
covenant—these I will bring to my holy mountain, and
make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt
offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on
my altar; for my house shall be called a house of
prayer for all peoples.”

Acts 5:34-end
But a Pharisee in the council named Gamaliel, a
teacher of the law, held in honor by all the people,
stood up and ordered the men to be put outside for a
while. And he said to them, "Men of Israel, take
care what you do with these men. For before these
days Theudas arose, giving himself out to be
somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred,
joined him; but he was slain and all who followed
him were dispersed and came to nothing. After him
Judas the Galilean arose in the days of the census
and drew away some of the people after him; he also
perished, and all who followed him were scattered.
So in the present case I tell you, keep away from
these men and let them alone; for if this plan or
this undertaking is of men, it will fail; but if it
is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them.
You might even be found opposing God!"
So they took his advice, and when they had called in
the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to
speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. Then
they left the presence of the council, rejoicing
that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for
the name. And every day in the temple and at home
they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as
the Christ.

Epistle: Ephesians
1:1-14
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,
To the saints who are also faithful in Christ Jesus:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the
Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every
spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as
he chose us in him before the foundation of the
world, that we should be holy and blameless before
him. He destined us in love to be his sons through
Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,
to the praise of his glorious grace which he freely
bestowed on us in the Beloved. In him we have
redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our
trespasses, according to the riches of his grace
_which he lavished upon us. For he has made known to
us in all wisdom and insight the mystery of his
will, according to his purpose which he set forth in
Christ _as a plan for the fulness of time, to unite
all things in him, things in heaven and things on
earth.
In him, according to the purpose of him who
accomplishes all things according to the counsel of
his will, we who first hoped in Christ have been
destined and appointed to live for the praise of his
glory. In him you also, who have heard the word of
truth, the gospel of your salvation, and have
believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy
Spirit, which is the guarantee of our inheritance
until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of
his glory.

Gospel:
John 14:1-14
"Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God,
believe also in me. In my Father's house are many
rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that
I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and
prepare a place for you, I will come again and will
take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
And you know the way where I am going." Thomas said
to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going;
how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am
the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes
to the Father, but by me. If you had known me, you
would have known my Father also; henceforth you know
him and have seen him."
Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and
we shall be satisfied." Jesus said to him, "Have I
been with you so long, and yet you do not know me,
Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how
can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not
believe that I am in the Father and the Father in
me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my
own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does
his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and
the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of
the works themselves.
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me
will also do the works that I do; and greater works
than these will he do, because I go to the Father.
Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the
Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask
anything in my name, I will do it.”

First Reading:
Isaiah 49:13-23
Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth;
break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the LORD has
comforted his people, and will have compassion on his
afflicted. But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me, my
Lord has forgotten me." "Can a woman forget her sucking
child, that she should have no compassion on the son of
her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget
you. Behold, I have graven you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me. Your builders
outstrip your destroyers, and those who laid you waste
go forth from you. Lift up your eyes round about and
see; they all gather, they come to you. As I live, says
the LORD, you shall put them all on as an ornament, you
shall bind them on as a bride does. "Surely your waste
and your desolate places and your devastated land --
surely now you will be too narrow for your inhabitants,
and those who swallowed you up will be far away. The
children born in the time of your bereavement will yet
say in your ears: `The place is too narrow for me; make
room for me to dwell in.' Then you will say in your
heart: `Who has borne me these? I was bereaved and
barren, exiled and put away, but who has brought up
these? Behold, I was left alone; whence then have these
come?'" Thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I will lift up
my hand to the nations, and raise my signal to the
peoples; and they shall bring your sons in their bosom,
and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.
Kings shall be your foster fathers, and their queens
your nursing mothers. With their faces to the ground
they shall bow down to you, and lick the dust of your
feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD; those who
wait for me shall not be put to shame."

Second Reading:
Acts 8:14-25
Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Sama'ria
had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter
and John, who came down and prayed for them that they
might receive the Holy Spirit; for it had not yet fallen
on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the
name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on
them and they received the Holy Spirit. Now when Simon
saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of
the apostles' hands, he offered them money, saying,
"Give me also this power, that any one on whom I lay my
hands may receive the Holy Spirit." But Peter said to
him, "Your silver perish with you, because you thought
you could obtain the gift of God with money! You have
neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is
not right before God. Repent therefore of this
wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if
possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.
For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in
the bond of iniquity." And Simon answered, "Pray for me
to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may come
upon me." Now when they had testified and spoken the
word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching
the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

Epistle: Ephesians
1:15-2:5
For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in
the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do
not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my
prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of
revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of
your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the
hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of
his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the
immeasurable greatness of his power in us who believe,
according to the working of his great might which he
accomplished in Christ when he raised him from the dead
and made him sit at his right hand in the heavenly
places, far above all rule and authority and power and
dominion, and above every name that is named, not only
in this age but also in that which is to come; and he
has put all things under his feet and has made him the
head over all things for the church, which is his body,
the fullness of him who fills all in all. And you he
made alive, when you were dead through the trespasses
and sins in which you once walked, following the course
of this world, following the prince of the power of the
air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of
disobedience. Among these we all once lived in the
passions of our flesh, following the desires of body and
mind, and so we were by nature children of wrath, like
the rest of mankind. But God, who is rich in mercy, out
of the great love with which he loved us, even when we
were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together
with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised
us up with him, and made us sit with him in the heavenly
places in Christ Jesus, that in the coming ages he might
show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness
toward us in Christ Jesus

Gospel: John
16:16-end
"A little while, and you will see me no more; again a
little while, and you will see me." Some of his
disciples said to one another, "What is this that he
says to us, `A little while, and you will not see me,
and again a little while, and you will see me'; and,
`because I go to the Father'?" They said, "What does he
mean by `a little while'? We do not know what he means."
Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him; so he said to
them, "Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I
meant by saying, `A little while, and you will not see
me, and again a little while, and you will see me'?
Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament,
but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but
your sorrow will turn into joy. When a woman is in
travail she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but
when she is delivered of the child, she no longer
remembers the anguish, for joy that a child is born into
the world. So you have sorrow now, but I will see you
again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take
your joy from you. In that day you will ask nothing of
me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of
the Father, he will give it to you in my name. Hitherto
you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will
receive, that your joy may be full. "I have said this to
you in figures; the hour is coming when I shall no
longer speak to you in figures but tell you plainly of
the Father. In that day you will ask in my name; and I
do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;
for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved
me and have believed that I came from the Father. I came
from the Father and have come into the world; again, I
am leaving the world and going to the Father." His
disciples said, "Ah, now you are speaking plainly, not
in any figure! Now we know that you know all things, and
need none to question you; by this we believe that you
came from God." Jesus answered them, "Do you now
believe? The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when
you will be scattered, every man to his home, and will
leave me alone; yet I am not alone, for the Father is
with me. I have said this to you, that in me you may
have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of
good cheer, I have overcome the world."

First Reading:
Isaiah 49:7-13
Thus says the LORD, the
Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One, to one deeply
despised, abhorred by the nations, the servant of
rulers: "Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they
shall prostrate themselves; because of the LORD, who is
faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you."
Thus says the LORD: "In a time of favor I have answered
you, in a day of salvation I have helped you; I have
kept you and given you as a covenant to the people, to
establish the land, to apportion the desolate heritages;
saying to the prisoners, `Come forth,' to those who are
in darkness, `Appear.' They shall feed along the ways,
on all bare heights shall be their pasture; they shall
not hunger or thirst, neither scorching wind nor sun
shall smite them, for he who has pity on them will lead
them, and by springs of water will guide them. And I
will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall
be raised up. Lo, these shall come from afar, and lo,
these from the north and from the west, and these from
the land of Syene." Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult,
O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the
LORD has comforted his people, and will have compassion
on his afflicted.

Second Reading:
Acts 9:1-19
But Saul, still breathing
threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord,
went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the
synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any
belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them
bound to Jerusalem. Now as he journeyed he approached
Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed about
him. And he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying
to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" And he
said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he said, "I am Jesus,
whom you are persecuting; but rise and enter the city,
and you will be told what you are to do." The men who
were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the
voice but seeing no one. Saul arose from the ground; and
when his eyes were opened, he could see nothing; so they
led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. And
for three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor
drank. Now there was a disciple at Damascus named
Anani'as. The Lord said to him in a vision, "Anani'as."
And he said, "Here I am, Lord." And the Lord said to
him, "Rise and go to the street called Straight, and
inquire in the house of Judas for a man of Tarsus named
Saul; for behold, he is praying, and he has seen a man
named Anani'as come in and lay his hands on him so that
he might regain his sight." But Anani'as answered,
"Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much
evil he has done to thy saints at Jerusalem; and here he
has authority from the chief priests to bind all who
call upon thy name." But the Lord said to him, "Go, for
he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name
before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel;
for I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake
of my name." So Anani'as departed and entered the house.
And laying his hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the
Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you
came, has sent me that you may regain your sight and be
filled with the Holy Spirit." And immediately something
like scales fell from his eyes and he regained his
sight. Then he rose and was baptized, and took food and
was strengthened.

Epistle: Hebrews
10:19-36
Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter
the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and
living way which he opened for us through the curtain,
that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great
priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a
true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts
sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies
washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession
of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is
faithful; and let us consider how to stir up one another
to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together,
as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another,
and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. For if
we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the
truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but
a fearful prospect of judgment, and a fury of fire which
will consume the adversaries. A man who has violated the
law of Moses dies without mercy at the testimony of two
or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you
think will be deserved by the man who has spurned the
Son of God, and profaned the blood of the covenant by
which he was sanctified, and outraged the Spirit of
grace? For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine, I
will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge his
people." It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of
the living God. But recall the former days when, after
you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with
sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to abuse
and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those
so treated. For you had compassion on the prisoners, and
you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property,
since you knew that you yourselves had a better
possession and an abiding one. Therefore do not throw
away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you
have need of endurance, so that you may do the will of
God and receive what is promised

Gospel: John 21:1-14
After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples
by the Sea of Tibe'ri-as; and he revealed himself in
this way. Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathan'a-el
of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zeb'edee, and two others
of his disciples were together. Simon Peter said to
them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We will
go with you." They went out and got into the boat; but
that night they caught nothing. Just as day was
breaking, Jesus stood on the beach; yet the disciples
did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them,
"Children, have you any fish?" They answered him, "No."
He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the
boat, and you will find some." So they cast it, and now
they were not able to haul it in, for the quantity of
fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It
is the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the
Lord, he put on his clothes, for he was stripped for
work, and sprang into the sea. But the other disciples
came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for
they were not far from the land, but about a hundred
yards off. When they got out on land, they saw a
charcoal fire there, with fish lying on it, and bread.
Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish that you
have just caught." So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled
the net ashore, full of large fish, a hundred and
fifty-three of them; and although there were so many,
the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, "Come and have
breakfast." Now none of the disciples dared ask him,
"Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and
took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the
fish. This was now the third time that Jesus was
revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the
dead.

First Reading:
Isaiah 51:9-11; 52:7-12
Awake, awake, put on
strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in days of old,
the generations of long ago. Was it not thou that didst
cut Rahab in pieces, that didst pierce the dragon? Was
it not thou that didst dry up the sea, the waters of the
great deep; that didst make the depths of the sea a way
for the redeemed to pass over? And the ransomed of the
LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing
everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall
obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall
flee away. How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet
of him who brings good tidings, who publishes peace, who
brings good tidings of good, who publishes salvation,
who says to Zion, "Your God reigns." Hark, your watchmen
lift up their voice, together they sing for joy; for eye
to eye they see the return of the LORD to Zion. Break
forth together into singing, you waste places of
Jerusalem; for the LORD has comforted his people, he has
redeemed Jerusalem. The LORD has bared his holy arm
before the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of
the earth shall see the salvation of our God. Depart,
depart, go out thence, touch no unclean thing; go out
from the midst of her, purify yourselves, you who bear
the vessels of the LORD. For you shall not go out in
haste, and you shall not go in flight, for the LORD will
go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear
guard.

Second Reading: Acts
10:1-16
At Caesare'a there was a man named Cornelius, a
centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort, a
devout man who feared God with all his household, gave
alms liberally to the people, and prayed constantly to
God. About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a
vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him,
"Cornelius." And he stared at him in terror, and said,
"What is it, Lord?" And he said to him, "Your prayers
and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
And now send men to Joppa, and bring one Simon who is
called Peter; he is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose
house is by the seaside." When the angel who spoke to
him had departed, he called two of his servants and a
devout soldier from among those that waited on him, and
having related everything to them, he sent them to
Joppa. The next day, as they were on their journey and
coming near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to
pray, about the sixth hour. And he became hungry and
desired something to eat; but while they were preparing
it, he fell into a trance and saw the heaven opened, and
something descending, like a great sheet, let down by
four corners upon the earth. In it were all kinds of
animals and reptiles and birds of the air. And there
came a voice to him, "Rise, Peter; kill and eat." But
Peter said, "No, Lord; for I have never eaten anything
that is common or unclean." And the voice came to him
again a second time, "What God has cleansed, you must
not call common." This happened three times, and the
thing was taken up at once to heaven.

Epistle: Ephesians
2:4-end
But God, who is rich in
mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us,
even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us
alive together with Christ (by grace you have been
saved), and raised us up with him, and made us sit with
him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the
coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his
grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by
grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not
your own doing, it is the gift of God -- not because of
works, lest any man should boast. For we are his
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in
them. Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles
in the flesh, called the uncircumcision by what is
called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by
hands -- remember that you were at that time separated
from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel,
and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no
hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ
Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near
in the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who has
made us both one, and has broken down the dividing wall
of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law of
commandments and ordinances, that he might create in
himself one new man in place of the two, so making
peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body
through the cross, thereby bringing the hostility to an
end. And he came and preached peace to you who were far
off and peace to those who were near; for through him we
both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then
you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are
fellow citizens with the saints and members of the
household of God, built upon the foundation of the
apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the
cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined
together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in
whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of
God in the Spirit.

Gospel: John 17
When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes
to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify
thy Son that the Son may glorify thee, since thou hast
given him power over all flesh, to give eternal life to
all whom thou hast given him. And this is eternal life,
that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ
whom thou hast sent. I glorified thee on earth, having
accomplished the work which thou gavest me to do; and
now, Father, glorify thou me in thy own presence with
the glory which I had with thee before the world was
made. "I have manifested thy name to the men whom thou
gavest me out of the world; thine they were, and thou
gavest them to me, and they have kept thy word. Now they
know that everything that thou hast given me is from
thee; for I have given them the words which thou gavest
me, and they have received them and know in truth that I
came from thee; and they have believed that thou didst
send me. I am praying for them; I am not praying for the
world but for those whom thou hast given me, for they
are thine; all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I
am glorified in them. And now I am no more in the world,
but they are in the world, and I am coming to thee. Holy
Father, keep them in thy name, which thou hast given me,
that they may be one, even as we are one. While I was
with them, I kept them in thy name, which thou hast
given me; I have guarded them, and none of them is lost
but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be
fulfilled.
But now I am coming to thee;
and these things I speak in the world, that they may
have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them
thy word; and the world has hated them because they are
not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do
not pray that thou shouldst take them out of the world,
but that thou shouldst keep them from the evil one. They
are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Sanctify them in the truth; thy word is truth. As thou
didst send me into the world, so I have sent them into
the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that
they also may be consecrated in truth. "I do not pray
for these only, but also for those who believe in me
through their word, that they may all be one; even as
thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also
may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou
hast sent me. The glory which thou hast given me I have
given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,
I in them and thou in me, that they may become perfectly
one, so that the world may know that thou hast sent me
and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me. Father,
I desire that they also, whom thou hast given me, may be
with me where I am, to behold my glory which thou hast
given me in thy love for me before the foundation of the
world. O righteous Father, the world has not known thee,
but I have known thee; and these know that thou hast
sent me. I made known to them thy name, and I will make
it known, that the love with which thou hast loved me
may be in them, and I in them."
